RB5 Query (Ive looked in the FAQ!)
#1
I need a good kicking I know, as these questions have probably been ased many times before. Sorry.
Does a std. RB5 have more power than a normal MY99 ish scooob?
I can see anything in the faq about rb5 power, just a list of what the prodrive one has over a normal one.
Also, will a prodrive rb5 cost more to insure than a normal rb5?
Lastly, how can subaru dealers justify their rb5 prices. Just look on their site for a good laugh!
I want one of these badly, and in the new year I hope to get one. However this is not gonna happen if I have to go through main dealer. £16k for one with 30k miles ffs!
Looking on autotrader site, and even in for sale here, one with lower miles can be had for circa £12 - 13k.
Ive always been wary of private purchase, with no waranty an all and the risk the car has seen too much track day ragging. Is it wise to go this route?
How much should I expect to pay for an 99 plate with less that 35k miles?
Any answers & advice greatly apriciated
Paul.

RB5 WR Sport is the RB5 with PPP fitted as new, 237 bhp, 258 lbft.
Ordinary RB5 has 215 bhp, 215 lbft as the MY99.
Insurers usually charge more for an RB5 even of the same power.
My suggestion is that you consider instead an STi 5 or 6 instead for less cash and more fun. Also greater modification potential. To get the STi like a P1 you could get a P1 ECU, fit 17" wheels and P1 springs.

hello there ,yes they are more to insure but not loads,i pay
£920 fully comp and im 28 with fncb.
They have a different ecu i think about 240bhp standard.
Its your money and you get what you pay for,and because they
are rare they have a good price in the second hand market.
cheers mouse

To be honest, what apeals is
Colour
Air con,
Coulour keyed bits,
Image and rarity.
Ive had a quote for an normat MY99 and an RB5 std, and there is little in it. I just wondered what the prodrive one added in terms of cost.
As for an STI, the insurance on an import may be a killer, and two doors impractical. The fixed rear seats of an RB5 may yet nail this idea, and force me back to a normal MY99.
I done want huge load capacidy, but spit seats come in handy for bits of wood & ladders etc.
I'm paying £700 for a sport, and best RB5 quote is £1500 ish. Best MY99 quate £1400.

I'm now ith frizzells (part of liverpool victorial) but they have no online quate faciluty, so the MY99 and RB5 prices are form AXA webside, and as AXA is more expensive than frizzells I'm hoping for cheaper still with them.
I have 3 Years NCB and am 25. However I'm waiting on a stupid speeding offence that may ruin my plans, but hopefully not.
