Condensation - advice needed
#1
As a new scooby owner [Jap WRX 1995] I have been surprised by the ammount of condensation on the windows. I am hoping this a trait of these cars but does anybody have any suggestions or advice?

I tend to wind the windows down a few minutes before getting to destination, redirecting cold air to the floor or cabin, in the hope that the interior is a similar temp to outside when I leave the car.

Mine does it a bit too.. not to bad with the aircon on though. Worst car for it has to be the Honda Accord. My old man had one without aircon and in winter you had to carry a passenger with a hefty supply of towels just to keep the windows clear.

mines mistin up a lot in this weather - more mist than condensation (MY99). v handy havin electric back windows - openin them fer a minute or so clears it much faster than the heater....

If it's really bad, check in the spare wheel well and see if you have a load of water in there, the offside rear light can leak on Scoobies letting bucketloads of water in (my well was full to the brim!)

LOL the condenstaion is nothing, back when I had my 1960 Beetle I had to carry an Ice scraper with me in this weather, as the condensation would freeze on the inside of the car in the mornings and as I drove along I had too scrape the inside of the windows, so I could see where I was going

Krade,
Had the same problem with my 1966 Land Rover 2A. Ice on the inside as well as out.
Also when you braked the condensation on the inside of the roof would run forward to the join above your head then drip down on top of you.
If the snow built up on the outside too much you could use the manual handles to help the windscreen wiper motors move the blades.
Never had a problem when I had the Scoob though.
Aircon is a god send in this weather and all manufacturers ought to fit the Ford type heated front screen.

Is Fog-X any use in these conditions? Reason I ask is that I bought some today and was planning on giving the car a good cleaning tomorrow...reckoned Fog-X might help cut down the condensation but having never used it before...

When you say Fog-x, do you mean rain-x antifog? I use this, it is very good, but does make the windscreen very smeary, so i only use it on the sides and rears. I don't notice any smearing at all on them? weird.
I haven't applied it for ages, so the windows seen forever misted. I must pull me finger out of me bum and get some slapped on.

Thanks Brun, um...yeah, that's the stuff - Rain-X anti-fog. It's called slightly differently over here but it's the thought that counts
I was planning on doing all windows with it. Anti-fog for the inside and Rain-X on the outside. I've used Rain-X before and it worked great for me but I wasn't sure about doing the inside...ain't figured out how it actually works !

I've had all sorts of cars including an MR2 (not like yours though!!..insert smiley here) My Scooby is the worst of the lot..I use the Aircon a lot but various threads tell me that it saps about 4BHP. If I'm at the lights and I put the aircon on the engine note changes !!
It's why Subaru put the rear window electric switches on the armrest
Midlife..

My colleague bought a MY97 UK Wagon a few months back and was allways complaning about the rear windows being misted up. Then I passengered in it and noticed the air vents where set on re-circulate. I set it to the other setting (direct air flow???) and asked him the following day if he had the same problem. Problem solved. As others have said, check your boot also the rear light clusters may need re-sealing.
Hope this helps

Thanks to NotoriousREV's sugestion I had a look at the boot but it was dry so looked under the matts and hey presto found a nice little puddle in both footwells on the driver-side .
This is a '95 Jap wagon - anyone had similar problems? The leak could be from anywhere.....

Scooby_si - Dunno what it is about Antifog, and the front window. It doesn't matter how much i buff the stuff, i can never get it spot on. For instance when i'm driving at night, under street lamps it makes the screen look ever so slightly smeared to me. I'm not talking anythig major, it's just sommat i notice.
I have a thing about having perfectly clean windows. One of my pet hates, is having any passengers who, when the slightest bit of mist appears on the window, they insist on wiping it clear. It makes a right mess.

Brun, I know what you mean about ppl "scribbling" on the windows as soon as they mist up - my two nippers think it's some kind of special drawing surface and can't resist. I was out with the wipes (useless they were) again today, then a bit of kitchen towel to get them clear. PITA !
Today I Rain-X'd the outside (windscreen as well) and Rain-X anti-fog'd the inside (on the side windows only). Car got a bit misty whilst I was waiting for school to get out but as soon as I started the engine (a/c switched off) it de-misted a treat. Seems like it did what it said on the bottle.

This sounds weird but after a month of being annoyed by this me and my mate sat in the car on saturday and sunday morning and perfected the right heater setup for de steaming.
Right - set the button to external air, not re-circ
The temp to three clicks into the red
and set it to option 2 on the power wise.
I've found this works a treat, demisses/de steams in about 45 sec.
Works on my car MY98 Scoob (UK)
Cheers
