How many MPG in your 01 scoob
#1
I,m getting 16mpg on a good day. Don't do any motorway or much A road but this is ridiculous. Car is a non PPP UK300 with its extra baggage and 2000 mls on the clock running 97RON. I'sure its not me lead soled boots but need a comparison before getting dealer to check it out

Bovver,
I was getting 15-16 thrashing around Wales and, er , using the performance.
Average A road was 22-24 and a steady run at 90 to Scotland last weekend returned 28 mpg.
SS d/p, centre and ProDrive back box with de- cat on SUL.

Over a tankful i've yet to average more than 20mpg. A similar driving style in MY00 yielded at least 25MPG, up to 30 when on the motorways in England. Is there a reason for less mpg in MY01, perhaps extra weight. By the way i always run on NUL because at £25 per tank( over irish border), SUL is just too much of a luxury.

As sadf as it sounds I actually keep a spread sheet for fuel consumption, I think it's the only way to properly judge the fuel consumption (i.e. over time).
According to my log (7500 miles worth) the best I have achieved is 28.93, the worst is 18.98, the average is 23.99.
That's a mix of non PPP and then PPP, since the PPP the average is 23.6, so I don't expext the PPP top make much difference to the overall fuel consumption.
Cheers,
Darren.

Just out of interest
I drive a MY01 GX
last week normal drivin 183 miles to a tank 45 l which is roughly 18mpg
20-22mpg is normal for me, hard driving it gets as low as 16 -17

I've kept a spreadsheet since day one too. Best 30.8 worst 15.4, Average 25.3. Mix of roads. Prob 80% normal driving, 20% giving it some. Drops to low 20 ish when I spend more time blatting about.
16 on a good day needs sorting IMHO.

I'm averaging 27-28 MPG, but it goes down to about 20 MPG if I use all of the performance on the twisties. However, I'm using Optimax, and all the reports say that the ECU reacts very quickly to a change in fuel and signficantly retards the ignition if you use poor fuel and welly it.
DT is right, 16 is too low and needs sorting. Probably worth trying a tank of Optimax if you can get it.

The most I've ever had (MY01 4 door, 5000 miles) is 22-23, on a 50/50 mix of motorway & B roads using Optimax, on 95 RON it's 20ish and 97 doesn't seem to improve matters much.
I had put it down to a either my heavy foot, or the car not being run-in but I tried driving real careful for a tank full and not running the aircon and didn't see any great improvement. I'll swap cars for one of the 28MPG'ers anyday.
16 seems pretty bad so I'd get 'em to check it out.
All the best,
Dean

Well I have only filled up 4 times so far in my WRX
1) 26.8 running in at 4k max
2) 25.7 Ditto
3) 22.4 Giving it a bit 5-6 K max
Old MY98 used to average about 19 - 22 but driven quite hard most of time on country roads and motorways.
16 is very low for average driving suggest you get it checked out.

I also have a spreadsheet ( at least I'm not the only sad person ) over 6 months and 7500 miles in my standard MY01.
Worst mpg at a rainy track day at Croft of 9.8mpg. On Scoobynet and SIDC meets depending on the group I am in or leading, it has been between 11.2 and 22.9mpg.
Doing 65mph on the motorway achieved 34.2mpg and my piste de resistance was 40.1mpg at 50mph over 172miles of motorway only.
Everybody can get over 30mpg with patience, observation, anticipation ie not using brakes while on motorway, clear roads and a very light right foot.
Michael
edit to say my average is 24.4mpg

Shares in Shell anyone?

On an average calculated over 16k i'm getting
23.4mpg on SUL.
have seen is as low as 11 and the best 27.2 at a steady 85mph down the M40.In traffic of
course.
generally, I think the mpg figure with the new car is better than the last. The range
seems slightly better with the same size fuel
tank.
MPG does improve with mileage IMO.
Aswell as the performance which just keeps getting better and better...

MY01 UK 5 door Prodrive BB. It has a 60 litre tank and can easily do over 300 miles on a tankful. (SUL, now Optimax).
If you are getting signficantly less you are driving like an ar$e or the car is broken.
I don't have a problem with the former (provided not dangerous), but you have a problem with the latter.

uk300 with PPP on Optimax...runs on average 22mpg...thats a mixture of slow/fast.
I did try a slow stint on a full tank and didn't see it really improve.
pushing it hard gives 17mpg.

Just behaved myself for two days and did some motorway 19.4 mpg.
On a similar vein. Had a Triumph herald (don't laugh) 67 on the year and that regulary returned 42mpg thrashed. Blurred vision @ 90 from the vibes. This little beasty had some primitive downdraft carb of a similar model to that attached to a Land Rover possibly a solex but wouild rather forget those days of dismantling carbs at the side of the road. Obviously this machine had no strangulation equipment and a comparison with some modern machinery with and without this gear would be real interesting. Would there be less or more pollution with much higher MPG than with lower MPG and strangulation.????

My view is that if you worry about MPG you should buy a diesel Mondeo. What you have is a performance car that has a flat four engine - so you live with the consequences. Anyway I get a sh^t hot pence per mile rate from my company.
