Unhappy

Hi
I live in deep, dark africa. I have never seen a nova. What make of car is it?

I read EVO and UK CAR, but have yet so see a picture of one.

I feel very empty for knowing nothing about this jewel in the crown of british motoring.

Can somebody help me out here?

Its the shape of an Opel Kadett, before it went roundy shape. So you know that one they called "The Boss"? that shape? well its not that one, but the shape before that, really square shaped.

Do they have Imp Turbo's in SA? when I was there, a Golf GTi was about all you could aspire to

Bet your next question is "whats an Integra Type-R?"

A Nova is what you buy if you are 17 and have just passed your test, or cannot afford anything better.

They are very popular with the Boy Racers, who will spend 5 times what the car is worth to add Alloy wheels, big bore exhaust and a spoiler. But still after all of this cosmetic surgery, it is still a Nova and worthless.

Don't even think about them get a proper Car.

Hope I have not offended someones pride and joy, but it is only a NOVA.

I think a Kadett was an Astra (or was that a Rekord?). I'm sure they were always Opel Corsas which then got adopted as the UK name.

Hmm, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I thought the Kadett was the Astra, and the Nova was called a Corsa by Opel. Might just be my poor memory though.

And yes they are the domain of 17 year olds who like 'Bolt on car modifying'. Not nice at all...

Not sure Carl, I cant remember a Corsa in SA?
The closest thing to it I remember is the old shape Kadett, but thats probably a little bigger than a Nova.

I had an Opel Ascona, body built for a 2.0l engine, me with the 1.6 version
At the time I thought it was quick, at least it was compared to the bright yellow Mazda 626 I started with, that rusted into the ground.

I really should have paid more attention to cars there, I put surfing and going out above cars, and now I cant remember much about which models were what.

Aha! It's an old shape corsa!
Yes we get the corsa over here.
And the scooby (from about 5 years ago).
And there are a number of STIs on the road.
And a 22B.

After the sanctions were lifted, the variety of cars on the market increased dramatically. In the eighties you used to have choice between a corolla, kadett, golf or ford escort.

I drive a silver MY01 WRX, prviously had a MY00 GT (2000 turbo in uk?).

Only problem is the scoobies are very expensive (you pay more than for a new BMW330 and about the same as for a 225bhp TT). So there are not that many on the road. Which is a good thing, because we are not subject to the hijackings etc. that you guys have in the uk.

Only one has been stolen since 1995. Which is quite impressive, as i think more cars get stolen/hijacked here in one day than in a whole year in the uk.

I shouldve paid more attention, I havent been back for around 3 years now, and left about 5 years ago, so I mustve missed them.

1 stolen in over 6 years!! and with those mega open roads and lax view on speeding, could be Scooby heaven.

More like nirvana. Well almost, at least you know that in a scooby someone isn't looking to blow your brains out with a shot-gun to get your car.

The Jewel in the crown of British Scrapyards would be a bit nearer the mark....

Bruce, maybe you should set up a grey import business. I'm sure people here could help you source some.
