Ok, 1st time in about 2 months i drove when we went to the pub for lunch. Now i normally drive steady, because they all winge etc..."ooo its like being in a bloddy plane"
However, because none of them have been in it since the mods were finished (except raggy doll), they asked me to show them what it was like. Said in a context of, it wont be that much different.
Well off we tootle, waited untill we got to a nice quite stretch of road, no cars no pedestrians, dual carriageway and 70mph limit.
Nice and gentle in 1st and then, floored it in 2nd and then 3rd upto 80mph, then lifted off and went down to 60mph.
The reason i went to 60, is from about 30mph all i could here were 2 out of the 3 grown men screaming, not in fear, in amazement!
Both these 2 described as like someone punching you in the stomach and the head at the same time.
One, who has a 206gti, said he thought his was quick, until he went in this in standard form, but this is just mental, bloody awesome!!
He then proceeded to tell everyone when they arrived at the pub, how good it was, whilst i sat there smug as a bug in a rug
Drove steady back to work as i did not want them being sick
So my point is,
....it is amazing how you get used to the power of your car and forget how feeble alot of the cars on the road are.
...even the standard car can give you a kick, but 338bhp and 313lbft torque is just so much fun
Makes everything worth it when you here compliments from people who thought i was mad
enjoy your weekend everyone
steven

You just need a reality check from time to time. I do it by regularly driving 100s of miles in a company pool car - Focus 1.8 Ghia Estate. I keep sitting there waiting for the turbo to spool up, although it never does.
And half the people from work who drive it say "that focus is fast"
There is of course the alternative reality check. I drive my brother's 300bhp/tonne kit car, and the scoob feels slow again.

Nice post Steve
I remind my self how quick a standard scoob is compared to 95% of the shopping trollies on the road by riving 30-40 thousand miles a year in a diesel automatic estate...that makes my standard 96 seem like a ROCKET!
SO I'll never get bored and need to spend all my money on mods
Cya in a week or so.

Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
When Sti was first run it I thought it was very scarily fast - with 6 gees worth of engine performance in there now - and a tad more than 300bhp it is just not enough...
...especially when you have tasted more!
P20, enjoy the feeling while it lasts - you will be wanting more

I don't think you can ever have too much power, I love anhialating so called fast cars in my Cossie, I've only got around 350bhp at the moment......but I'm bored so grey injectors & a live map are happening early next year.....until I get bored with that & then I'm transplanting the whole running gear into a Dax Rush.

It's so true that you become used to the power. I have a UK MY97 with around 250-260bhp (full decat, dawes), not stupid power but loads of fun. I borrowed my father-in-laws Rover 400 (2 litre) the other day and it felt like a milk-float. I mean it felt REALLY slow. I can't believe a 2 litre 16v N/A car felt quick to me a few years back.

Just swapped my runabout 1.3 fiesta for a 1.6 Focus Zetec and as the Focus has a rev counter, I realised my scoob in second gear it takes about 2 seconds (ish ) to go from 2500 rpm to 7000rpm and revs so cleanly and power on aceleration is intoxicating. The focus is quiet and refined but 2500 rpm with foot flat and 5 seconds later its doing 3500 rpm. Suppose the only way to describe the RA is like being hit from behind by a 120mph train when you are doing 20mph . You do get use to it but your passengers dont .

nick, wise choice on bathroom, far cheaper than modding
would offer assistance but thats like jumping out the pot into the fire for me, given the state of my house
no stairs yet!
spent saturday afternoon and sunday afternoon putting new front door in! Had to rush round and find a lintle as there was a worrying moment when bricks started to fall out
Sorted now, although the 'kin letter box isnt straight (i was tiered)
no problem taking you for a ride in the car wear the right shade of trousers

Still no stairs? ****!
I wimped out and paid someone to fit our new front door and new frame for fear of just what you describe a couple of weeks back. The guy's a good chippy and it took him one and a half days. He didn't have to do anything twice either, so I'm glad I didn't try it.
Trousers today are black, so they should hide the stains
Overtaking anything that's moving at 50 reminds me every time how fappin' fast these cars are. God only knows what yours is like...

Hi Steve,
Ditto, I was actually thinking my car was getting slower but it was just me getting used to the power. Now I want more!!
What mods have you on your car - decatted mine only, so now looking where next to go!
