Prodrive Geometry Settings?
#1
Having new tyres fitted today, (£500 for 4 17" SO2s including fitting, VAT, Hidden balancing etc), but toying with idea of getting geometry changed to the 'infamous' Prodrive settings, but what are they?? Any one know them to mail to me??

Theyre on the SIDC FAQs (www.sidc.co.uk).
I've just had them done to my car - definite improvement. Steering feels slightly weightier initially, and the car turns in much more sharply, to the extent that I found myself steering too much on the first few bends I tried (used to compensating for the understeer).
Only downside is that if you have to drive a normal FWD car afterwards, they feel even worse than normal!

Gary,
Had mine set to prodrive since new so don't really know what none prodrive geometry is like but no doubt somebody will have told you that setting to prodrive seems to cause increased tyre wear on the inside of the front tyres.
This appears is increased if most of your miles are motorway miles...
Just a point to bear in mind...

I had my MY99 changed to the "prodrive" settings. made no difference, but then the guy did comment mine werent too bad to start with.
I do loadsa motorway miles..no difference in wear. consider that its only 1degree neg camber..vauxhall omegas run about 5degs at the rear as standard !!

I use prodrive ... 1.3/1.4 neg at front, 1.1 neg at rear and 1.0mm total toe on fronts and rears, I have just completed 19,000 miles on 16" SO2's, including two track days and wear is absolutely even. I do swap front to rear every 3500/4000 though. I have MY96 STi 2 with "standard" STi suspension. I estimate over 50% of those miles were motorway.

Bob,
Total toe of 1mm is that per wheel or split somehow across all 4, ie .25mm each??
If per wheel what does 1mm equate to in terms of degrees.
cheers

Howie, I'll get the report out (Micheldever) and quote the settings for you this evening. It 1.0 mm total (0.5mm per side) across the front two and same for the back. I think it relates to 0.09/0.12 deg per side but will confirm later.

My settings are front 1.3/1.4 neg camber with +0.12 deg toe in per side (0.09 more usual for Prodrive settings) and rear 1.1/1.2 neg camber with +0.10 deg per side(0.09 again more usual for Prodrive)
Tolerance range defined as 0.07/0.23 per side for toe and -0.3 to -2.3 per side for camber. Prefered stated as 1.3 neg camber and 0.08 toe per side.
Hope this is helpful

My cars tyres are starting to wear on the inside, but my mate has an sti 5 were the tyres are completely shagged after 7000 miles.
The tracking is spot on but the inside tyres are completely worn away, yet the rest is about 4-5 mm
After getting the 4 wheel alignmnet, the front left camber is -1 degree and the front right was -0.1 degree.
The garage said this was within the tolerance levels and they did not have the machine to sort out the camber settings, they also said that it was a nightmare job as changing the camber effected the caster (or toe) dont know what the caster or toe is so cant comment.
We rang around everywhere for someone to do Camber adjustmnet in Bristol - cheapest quote was £60+ vat from Tileys in Bristol, up to £76 + vat from some one else- only teo garages out of about 100 rang in Bristol could do Camber adjustments and they quoted £65+ vat and £69+ vat - is this reasonable?
Of more worry is the fact that the car with hardly any negative camber was wearing on the inside, and the one with the -1.1 degrees was completely shot on the inside.
Does anyone know anyone near Bristol who are experts at this?
I here Michel Dever are good near London, but this is too far to travel from Britsol
Any comments would be most appreciated

hi steve
i just don't understand how can they measure it but then they can't adjust it ?? sounds pretty silly to me but again i could be talking crap. i would suspect you are running more than -0.1 but their system is not accurate enough. camber is the angulation of the wheels on the road in relation to the vertical plane, while toe is the angulation in relation to the horizontal plane. i hope i am making sense here. i have just had mine done and if the garage knows what they are doing it should not take more than an hours work!!. check the subaru dealers around your area. you want somebody with one of these fancy laser super tracker thingys.

I think maybe supplying a mechanic, plus all equipment needed to chance settings might just be a little beyond even GGR! But then he(or she!) could probably walk from Leicester, with all equipment and still beat delivery times of the others!!
