Hey everyone did you see the request in Autocar today.

They are looking for FIVE readers cars to compete in the 0-100-0 challenge at Millbrook in April.

I think we need a consorted response here:-

Firefox's 380bhp
Stef's AP Brakes
Stef's sprint start ability

Any other combinations suggested here?

They did say that 500bhp would be useful, but after Drivens pretty ordinary times for the M5 last night, then maybe power isn't everything - a good start and fabulous brakes will give you two seconds over an M5

So, who's up for it

Ermmmmm........me!
What times were they getting in the M5?
Do they want modified cars?
If so, I'm game.

Stef,

from a very poor memory they did standing quarters with the following times...

BMW M5 - 14.4s
Testarossa - 14.5s
Jag SV0 and S6 both slower again!

Er, we are both faster than that!

Also - Autocars roadtest of the M5 had it doing 0-100 in 12.7, about that of an STi V.

Rannoch

PS No doubt there will no be posts about damp track and the fact that Santa Pod has a special sticky surface - well, not when I was there is was very slippy!

do you think they would be interested in a racing car. The esprit i built would kick ***. 700Kg, 420BHP F3000 brakes and tyres, F1 rear wing.

Mike R,

it was yesterdays.

They are looking for FIVE cars the only requirement would seem to be that they are ROAD LEGAL - they also suggested 500bhp plus would be useful.

Well Mark Sheed has 545bhp in his Cossie - there must be some other really serious cars out there, including a SCOOBY!

Mike T,

only 10 - pah, when I was at the Pod on a wet November day there was a GIRL who did it in 10

...and finally it is a sprint AND brake test - 0 to 100mph to 0, and I think it includes reaction time - check out Autocar last year, they do it every year.

The BMW M5 did very well last year, can't remmeber what won tho. The STi/22b did not perform that well, RB5 did OK. Evo VI RS did very well, up with the M5.

I suspect a well sorted STI V with really strong brakes would beat an M5 - be interesting to see what the Evo Extreme will do after all the Autocar hype of it having 400bhp on overboost ....NOT!

Mike,

What have you done to your Blackbird to get 10 sec SQ's? Honda claim 10.5, but that's usually with a midget pro drag racer.

Mike,
Yeah but stopping from that speed is another matter.... (compared to a car anyway)!

Read this and weep - MCN (MotorCycle News for the Non-Bikers out there - did a 0-100-1 shoot-out last year. Fastest Bike was a Yamaha R1 (Surprise,Surprise)

Total Elapsed Time 9.8 seconds.

0-100 in 4.8 Seconds
100-0 in 5.0 Seconds

Yup, stopping took longer than getting up there.

There were other Bikes tested, A Fireblade and ZX9R if I remember correctly, that were close to 10 seconds, but the R! was the only one that accelerated quicker than it stopped.

thats the esprit out then, never mind. Would have liked to know what it would do.

We entered it in a sprint last year after changing the brakes, only chance to bed in and test prior to the first race.

Got FTD on last run. I recon 0-100 is under 4 with brakes to match. Traction is awesome on F3000 slicks.

Having read the article, I don't think any Scoob this side of a WRC stands much chance, and as they're road legal perhaps Prodrive fancy a go?
I believe the world record is held by a Mclaren F1 LM which did it in about 11 secs or something stupid.
It takes me 13.5 secs just to get to 100 !!!!

Rannoch,

The BMW M5 did poorly due to a shagged clutch. Embedded in the article is reference to it.

Other mags have recorded it in the low tens.

Kind regards

Ben

David,
Sent off my details this morning - doubt they would want an old Cossie though....!

Will just have to wait and see what happens now.

i must be miles out with my figures looking at the results above, amazing how you can think one thing cos you dont have the facts.

I recon the esprit is similar to the F1 times, lower geared and steel brakes so no prob with no heat the carbon jobbies suffer from.

surprised they got the BAR to last that long

Does most powerful road car in the Uk
go to Phil Dawson and his amazing
852bhp mkiv supra without nitro.....???

Think that would destroy most of the above
cars!

Justin,

Dave Jones (from near Dundee) has a 1,000 bhp Skyline which may well pip the SUpra for the most powerful road legal car in the country.

He took it along to one of our track events at Knockhill last year, though it wasn't really suited (lot of speed + lot of weight = huge strain on braking system!).

He has done the 1/4 mile under under 11 seconds, but the car should be capable of about 10 seconds, but is very hard on the clutch!

Thought Caterham JPE was high up the list of cars that have achieved greatness in this realm.......so I would expect its successor the R500 to do quite well.

Dave Jones has actually admitted that his Skyline has more like a real 750bhp. 1,000bhp is for down the pub!
LOL
Mike
PS. The guy who does the servicing on it reckons that a 640bhp GT3 Porsche sticks with it neh problem (being lighter)....

the supra / skyline with big power may be fast, but NOTHING is gonna beat the top fuel funny cars. Went to the bulldog bash last year, and stood against the fence as it went past (with lots of others) Everyone got thrown about 5 feet!! It was cool.....

I would enter the lambo, but dont think it would do too well on the braking bit - too heavy eh Mike?

John F/Mike T

just out of interest the Evo, 22b and RB5 were all faster to 30mph than the F1 car or the R1

Only the Focus WRC and Funny Car were faster.

I believe I read it some where that a Scooby is faster up to 40mph than an F1 car, but by the time a well tuned STi hits 60mph the F1 car will be doing 100mph!

Question

Justin,
I don't know what you are on about - what Cossie group? (or do you mean the RSOC?). If so you'll have to be a bit more specific as to the date, time and location you want me to put on the RSOC BBS.

Never heard of Mark Holden, exactly what Cossie is it (colour / three-door or Sapphire etc) and "claimed" 420 bhp or proven (there is a BIG difference) .

I have had the pleasure of going in
Mark Holden's 420bhp cossie, I can
confirm that it is genuine, indeed he runs
high 12's at the pod.
It was Mark that made me by a cossie myself,
I got mine up to 380bhp before I sold it.

You must have heard of Dave Jacobs then ??
