Does your car rev cleanly(in say 4th to 6th gears)past the 5000rpm mark. Only got hesitation in the gears where the car is under more load???
Gets to the 5000 mark and starts to hesitate and feels like its holding back all the way then onto the 7000 ish mark. No drop in boost tho???? Any ideas??? Still firkin quick but a little frustrating.

Yep I have noticed this but I can't recreate it reliably. My car is going for a 10k service next week so I was going to mention it to the dealer

Probably still quite tight and needs a few miles under it belt. My classic RA was pretty tight upto 5000 miles but now revs cleanly upto 5000 and then all hell breaks loose and you need to grab the gear stick before it hits the 7,500 rev limiter.

Arron,
5:00am (4-6*c outside) I have a little Private road that has 2miles of corners mostly flat 4th or near buzzer 5th then a 40mph for 3/4mile. Then a 2.9mile section accelerating hard, the last corner at 2miles is pulling hard 5th. with PPP getting near limiter then 6th for 0.9miles with a slight gradent last 300 metres into 4th flat right hander.
I would expect and got to ***mph prior to PPP(I only tried this once since PPP) I was faster through both sections and definately faster out the last corner +15mph but then seemed to loose boost in 6th gear and top speed down by -15mph
I hadn't used the Intercooler spray as never did prior to PPP and the outside temp was low. Apparently possible heat soak from the blat prior to the 40mph and no or little cooling in 40 zone.

Question

Hmmmm, Interesting, mine is not like this, but more the other way around. Done 1K now since PPP was fitted and the car pulls smoothly through the revs, but feels like it has a mini power band at 6500 revs in 4th & 5th particularly. Seems to use up the last 1000 revs real quickly. I just thought this was something to do with variable valve timing and that it was just more noticeable with PPP fitted.

When the car was new I could feel what I am describing as this mini power band, at about 6500 revs, but as I put more miles on the car, it seemed to flatten out and almost disappear. As mentioned above seemed to get this back with PPP, bit it's not always the same feeling. Like it is not consistent, if this makes sense. I was putting this lack of consistency down to petrol, as when I am in Aberdeen I fuel with Optimax, when I'm home I use Super (sometimes with a top of Miller) and when I'm up North in the highlands or can't get super I use Millers with unleaded. BTW, 11.5K on the clock now.

Got the same flatspot around 5000 rpm on my standard non-PPP STI but only happens when revving hard on full throttle, engine goes slightly rough and vibey and you feel it through the steering, sometimes it is more noticeable but never really a problem, you get through it very quickly so it's easy to miss. And the car does seem to be restricted at the top end, never really feels like it's quite running 100% and feels very slightly rough, still goes like buggery though. Mine's done about 11000 miles just been serviced.
I assumed it was some sort of consequence of having a cat in the exhaust, but thinking about it it does feel like some sort of slight fuel starvation.
I have ordered PPP so I assumed the remapped ECU would eliminate it but maybe not?

Arron, just replied on your "wet thread". Exactly the same as your symptons, but around 3,500 rpm. Definately in just the higher gears as well.

I am told its fuelling, which is set to run rich.

Mines very bad at times, almost to the stage where it feels like a miss.

Having it looked at next week if all goes to plan.

Keep us posted Russell. My 10000 mile service is 4000 miles away yet. I can live with it as it is would just like to know why. My M3 did a similar thing too sometimes??
