WRX MY01 to Sti7 MY02
Agree with Barnaby
Generally like a WRX with a bit more edge
Trick slip difs are great for traction out of fast corners but as a pay off they do make the car feel a bit twitchy on wet slippery less than smooth roads, you do get used to it though and it actually feels worse than it is.
It is a faster car especially with PPP, without it a "small" flat spot from tick over to 3700 rpm means you need to use the gearbox to make rapid progrss.
Is it worth upgrading I'd say yes before the price slash, now the nearly £10,000 differance if you stay UK spec is IMHO too much.
£3000-£4000 spent on a WRX carefully would yield a very quick car!

Changed from 99MY to Sti. Difference is much better build quality, car is much stiffer, ride is better, less rattles, faster etc.

No comparison really. Go for it.

Chip.

I went from an 01 WRX to a STi7 UK.

Suspension is quite a bit stiffer and you get bounced around a bit more. Gear change is similar, but the 6 gears give you a lot more flexibility.

STi doesn't like to pick up from low revs, a lot like the WRX, but no where near as badly. When it gets on song it really moves where the WRX is a lot less dramatic.

Steering is much better on the STi and the handling is also better. There is enough power to unsettle the car a bit which you can't do with the standard WRX. Everything else feels very similar.

The STi drinks petrol like there is no tomorrow

The STI 7 needs the PPP as does the MY01 WRX IMHO. It does depend on what you are use to though.
