I know this subject has been done to death so this will be short. I am with Admiral Insurance and called them to find out about changing the standard system on my MY00 to a COMPLETE Scooby Sport system. The operator dissapeared briefly to talk to the supervisor and then returned. I was expecting 'sorry but......blaa.....performance...blaa......etc' but I was wrong! I was told to go ahead..no problem and no increase in premium! They will be sending me a new Insurance Certificate stating that my car has been modified....BRILLIANT!!

I'm of to SS on Sat to get the centre pipe and rear box fitted straight away! Not too sure about the downpipe yet though, Subaru have not said one way or another if it would invalidate the warranty on the engine or not....watch this space!!

I had to move from admiral because they wouldn't cover my SS backbox!
You're lucky!

Yup,
Just put the phone down to admiral, told them I had a complete Scoobysport system and asked if i needed to tell them. They asked me why I changed the exhaust and I told them my last one collapsed on the motorway. They were cool on that and said it didnt change the policy.

They did say, however, that if i would claim for a new exhaust system, they would only pay to the value of an Official Subaru part.

Blow Dog, you told them that you had a new exhaust and asked whether you needed to tell them about it? D'oh!

Stu, I think you ought to try again unless you have found joy somewhere else. My experience is the same as Spikey's and seems to be typical of Admiral's approach. I think most other insurance companies are similar.

Spikey, don't overlook Blow Dog's comment that although your premium doesn't go up, you will not be able to claim for a new SS backbox, only the standard Subaru part. Someone posted here recently that they had found an insurer that would give them like for like. I don't remember who it was, what company it was or whether it affected their excess...

It sounds to me like Admiral have had a change of heart, they went through a period of several months not accepting mods at all.

My 3 year waranty is almost finished (beginning next month) but I have found that since putting SS backbox, I have had seperate warranty work done to it. I have had the downpipe now and I am having the engine changed under waranty. I think it all comes down to luck and whether you know the dealers well or not.

Question

Wouldn't an official Subaru system cost more than a "performance" system?
