What do you run your P1 on??

So I thought your had to use SUL (97 RON) and I'm sure that's what the dealer told me too.
So, in the 375 miles we've done from new ( ) I've used a tank of SUL and am now working through a tank of Optimax - can't tell any difference as I'm not measuring mpg and am still touring round at <4000rpm of course.
But I looked at the P1 info on

I've run the P1 on SUL form day one, I'd say it was highly reccomended - my dealer said the same about NUL but I'm not so sure it's a sales pitch so people won't be put off by the price of SUL, adding to the already high running costs.
I'm running Optimax at the mo'. Impossible to say if it makes a difference because the onset of cold rainy weather will have a greater effect on performance anyway. Stick with SUL or Optimax, just to be on the safe side, your engine will prefer it.

P1 purchasers shouldn't be price sensitive, if cost was an issue why buy it?
Equally if you spend the best part of 30k on a performance car why diminish that for the sake of a few pounds!
Have run SUL from day one, now switched to optimax. Only a subjective assessment that it "appears" to be turning in less mpg cos I've better things to do than calculate running costs.

Optimax and Octane Booster. Yee haaa.
You can run it on NUL if you have to but it reduces the power significantly and seems to run more harshly. Cost wise for my cocktail don't ask as I try not to think about it either.

Hi
I've tried it all. The car runs like a bag of ****e on NUL and I only use it as a last resort. Currently using Optimax and happy with it. Also, the price differential between NUL & SUL is less than it used to be. I recall when SUL was 20% more expensive. Now, a tankful costs about £1.50 more.
I do find that I get 5-10% better fuel economy on the SUL as well, which cancels out the increase in price.
Bye for now

Martin,
I've only ever used SUL in mine. But then again, in the 4 years I had my old MY97, I only used SUL in that(apart from a couple of times) as it was a lot smoother and pick up was better etc etc. If you buy a Scoob, don't skimp on the fuel.
As far as I know the Optimax is rated at 98ron as opposed to Std SUL at 97. I've heard reports that 95 drops the P1 around 20+ BHP. You're just buying a bit more safety margin when you start to "use" the car.
Steve.

Only collected my P1 on Tues and have run it on nothing but Optimax. Always ran my MY97 Turbo on SUL and you do notice a difference over NUL. And as Kurt states, the extra mileage cancels out the slight expense over NUL.
