Now that is one very positive review, looks like Subaru have gone all out in re-modelling the MY03. I think the big thing that they adressed was the "lag" that came out from the MY02. 100lb-ft more than MY02 STI at 2500rpm!! That is a huge effort from the guys at fuji. The only bad thing that came through from that review was that the centre console material being too plasticy!! It is good to know that Subaru actually listen to their customers..

Check out this article from ApexJapan:
http://www.apexjapan.com/news/sti8/sti8.html

and highlights:

Handling -
"Subaru Technica International turned up the heat and rethought the entire suspension setup, the result being inspired tweaking that very nearly addresses any possible gripe towards it's handling. Revised suspension mount points, well-sorted stabilizer bars with beefier rear links, and overall balancing have brewed up a track-eating monster. Let me rephrase that, for
it's handling is anything but monstrous"
The engine (OH the engine...) -
"Numbers are impressive, but what really shook my booty was the instant response once you've passed 2000rpm. It felt quite a bit closer to a big NA motor than most turbo's I've sampled"

The twin-scroll turbo bit is interesting. I wonder if it actually makes a noticable difference?

not a bad write up there. Looks more likely that id change my car for this model rather than a bug eye. I do have to say id have to have that WRC big bonnet "vent" just before the intercooler scoop.

Sounds very impressive. I think i'll buy one in about 8 years when they drop to my price range

Still, 1440kg is pretty heavy for a 'performance' car... that's almost skyline weights were up to now.

M3 - 1577kg
S4 - 1562Kg
Ferrari 360 - 1447Kg
STI Type-UK - 1470Kg!!
Skyline - 1605Kg...

I wouldn't say the STI is heavy.
and keep in mind it has almost 100lb-ft more than Bug-eye JDM STI at 2500rpm!!

I need this car...

Subaru and STi has demonstrated that they indeed do listen. Nearly every weakness of the STi was taken out into the harsh light of day and finally acknowledged, resulting in a well-planned and near-total rework of the entire car. Their pitch has become quite deadly to the competition, and I sense there will be a scramble to match them at this ballgame. It's not perfect, but that's only because it's a 4-door sedan with a bit low-budget interior instead of a red-hot 2-door sports car with interior to match. Our host initially reassured us that this was, predictably "a level up", but for once they were off base. It's 2 or 3 levels up.

BTW, the numberplate on the WRC is a stick on type on the spoiler, thought this was a bit on the illegal side as i was going to get one but was put off by the thought of being 3 pointed/fined by plod. Any reason why i shouldnt get one?

The engine/turbo sounds good 230lbft at 2400 RPM. That is about 1200 RPM earlier than present models. About time too.

Optional extra of a DCCD with ABS why didn't they think of that with the Type R and RA.

Oh well better start saving them pennies.

Wink

You cant have ABS if you have a mechanical diff like the ones on the Type RA and R (controllable ones with the dial )

You won't be disappointed if you get one, it does everything sooo much better it is scary - Subaru went all out this time show what they can do. It is almost a totally new car.

The DCCD with auto function is a great leap forward. The engine is heavily revised, and many of the tweaks are invisible to the eye, but show up when you drive it. The whole line up - and not just the STi - has been revamped, and the differences are eye opening.

It seems the twin-scroll turbo is for Japan only. The MY2003 STi RA Spec C also seems to have gained some weight.
