Being a newbie I am having some trouble with some of the abbreviations i.e. IMHO, JDM etc... Is there anywhere on this site that has a list of these? If not, would it be a good idea to?
Sorry for being so fick!!!

I always thought that IMHO was in my humble opinion , with IMNSHO being in my not-so humble opinion and IMO as in my opinion .
There's also IIRC - If I recall correctly .

[even more pedantic hat on]Actually they're not, because they don't spell a word that you pronounce. For example, BTTT is 'bee-tee-tee-tee' not 'bttt'.

Yes, I'm afraid it was Mark who pointed me at the alt.usage.english FAQ. And what an entertaining read it is too
(previously I had to rely on my hardcopy of Fowler's).

Recall / Recollect / Remember...
They all mean much of a muchness. Well, (for the pedants
) they
don't mean "much of a muchness"...

I don't wish to be a pedant but a hat cannot be pedantic however it can be a pedants hat. Got that ?

Should that be "pedant's hat" rather than "Pedant's Hat", as it's not a proper noun? Or something?

BTW sometime ago there was a guy who posted (cut & paste to be pedantic) just about every imanginable TLA (three letter abbreviation) and 4 and 5 and 6 etc letter abbreviation too.
Anyone got the link, it was very comprehensive.
Not sure if FFS was on the list though.
Pretty obvious I guess, so maybe not needed !!

Oi, stop stealing my lines.
And besides, unless the hat is worn/belongs to more than one pedant, no, it shouldn't.

But as a generic thing it's a pedants' hat, i.e. a hat worn by pedants.
