Hi Simon,
We talked about the noise when you were at Longleat. Sounds like it's a good move you are making, why have a car that is a monster and can make mincemeat of most cars on the road but "at the end of the day" you don't enjoy it. If it ain't fun for you then get rid, life is too short.
What will you be getting? Will the flat 4 burble be on the cards again, did Longleat make you decide to go back to the scoob family? A new Scoob perhaps? Cheers, Grahame.

Sad and embarrassed and true.

Had an FQ300 for just 6 months & covered 3,800 ear droned miles. Before that I had my beloved P1.

Don't anyone think about swapping your P1 for an FQ300. My ears have been affected by the evo (tinnitus) & I can't stand it any longer. A Mitsu dealer is selling it on my behalf.

OK the evo sticks to the road & destroys all known traffic but that's not the point. You have to be able to live with the thing

Now have a mad german estate on order but that's 9 months away.

P1 was the best car I ever owned.

Regards,

Simon

Question

What was the problem? Was it the actual exhaust system? If so, then surely you could have looked at alternatives?

Would that be an RS6 then?

LMW,

I Changed the exhaust & my dealer paid for it too.

There's too much resonance for my liking. I think it's a personal thing because my family & children aren't that bothered. I must have strange ears!

Im looking at the FQ300 for my next car. I was going to have it as a weekend car. How come you changed the exhaust? It already has a peachy exhaust to start with. Tell me more about owning one. Ride quality, overtaking, brakes, fuel range etc etc. Niceone mate. 1 more question. Do you think it would keep up with the new M3(E46)BMW?

Thanks

Simon,

Was just investigating doing exactly what you describe, I.E. P1 for and EVO FQ300

With straight through magnex exhaust on the P1 it is already LOUD and the ride is well firm but now begining to wonder shoudl i even pursue investigation further (Dealer just arranging test drive)

Any other comments ?

This may seem a silly question, but as my interest lies with Scoobies and not Evo's, can I ask whats so different with the Evo 7 FQ300 than an ordinary Evo 7 ?

Cheers !

Red face

Simon,

It was good to talk to you at longleat (me, blue/black '02 GX wagon)... sorry to hear the evo didn't suite, but the RS6 should be good fun, all the best with that one.

Hope all goes well with the sale and new purchase.

Rgds, Alex

ricky,

think of it this way.

evo 7 = quick car
evo 7 fq 300 = evo 7 with lots of bits removed saving weight etc & if the car is quick & you make it quick it will become fking quick & has 300bhp

so you get a evo 7 fking quick 300 bhp car

fking simple

Hi again,

Responding to a few questions... Some may like the FQ300, I just found it loud. The FQ300 is an upgrade pack fitted by the Colt Car Company at the docks when they're imported (Bristol I think). The conversion consists of a free flow air filter & exhaust only. Don't think the ecu is changed. Result is supposed to be 305 bhp & 300 ftlb's of torque at around 3.5K rpm from memory. Feels about right.

I've heard from somewhere that Power Engineering have provided the exhaust & carbon bits. The first exhaust on the car was loud & the Ralliart technician actually said "it's an unpleasant car to drive". So the noise problem wasn't just my imagination at that point. The dealer fitted another exhaust & it was quieter but still louder than I liked - a drone that would never go away & resonance from 3K to 5K revs. The dealer then paid for me to have an HKS Super Drager 2 fitted (with cunning removabale baffle) & that was quieter still. However the resonance between 3.8K to 4.2K is still there & that's enough to make my smallish brain turn into soup on long journeys. It's particularly bad under load, say 4th gear going up hill & passing through that 400 rpm rev band.

The next step would be for Hayward & Scott in Essex to custom build an exhaust that's quieter still; something they say they can do without compromising performance, but that's another £750. Where does it end ?

Have to admit though that being without some sort of rocket drives me just as mad so if the dealer can't sell it, I'll have it back and drive it around with silicone sealant in my ears.

9 months is a long time without that performance fix that we all like here. Perhaps I'm just too old (44 now) for this s**t.

Cheers,

Simon

Z80,

If i can find you a UK RS6 for immediate delivery at list price, would you be interested?

A friend of mine who is on the list for Jan delivery had a dealer phone him to offer him a cancelled order a few days ago, IIRC it was Blue

If you are interested I can ask him for the details and dealers number.

Cheers

Dean
