Looking after a scooby

Hi everyone, i have just bought me first scooby a MY00 classic. i tend not to drive much during the week as i commute into london, therfore only really drive on weekends. My question is do i need to aware of any problems this may cause to the engine?

I mainly use my scoob at weekends as I have on old Saab for the commuting scrum.
No probs. but you do tend to look forward to the weekends more

I used to do he commute on a scooter and then save the Scoob for the weekends with no problems. However, a lot of the time I'd have to go out and spend an hour geting a pint of milk in the scoob during the week, just to get my fix.

I use a bike during the summer and leave the Scoob to the weekends..
I found if I was too busy at the weekend to take it out and it sat for two weeks it ran like a pig and the brakes stuck slightly..
So I'd try and run it once a week which is probably not going to be a problem.
Mind you mine is a bit older and gone round the world a fair few times!
Warm it up and warm it down and all should be fine.

This is great advice. It is very tempting to blast the car as soon as you get in it, which isn't good. Let the car warm up for 10-15 mins before taking it over 3K RPM.
Except when the lads are stood outside work.. then you just have to boot it!! sorry Scooby..
Warm down I usually cruise below 3,000rpm for a couple of miles and idle for a minute or so... well most of the time.
Could be over kill but it doesn't hurt..

I am much the same got a work van so only drive the scoob at weekends and now and again in the evenings. Great fun arn't they.

I understand what you are saying, but once the water is up to temp then the oil isn't far off .. I don't have an oil temp gauge so you have to draw the line somewhere.
I am sure oil lubricates enough below normal temp.. just not when cold etc.. my main reason for waiting is to allow the metal components to heat and expand to their normal size so clearances on rings for example are normal. Also for the oil to warm so it flows at a good rate and to coat the inside of the engine with oil like you are hinting at.. but at the end of the day something is better than nothing..
Once water temp is normal then I go above 3,000rpm but don't usually do a standing start to the redline in every gear etc..
I think it depends how you drive.. I don't do an oil change at 4,000miles like others do as I don't feel I punish the engine enough, also with the miles I am currently doing I'd be under the car too often..
I think we are agreeing and I am waffling now..
