Im especially intersted to see who the heavily modified cars are insured with, Rannoch (fishy ), Nito, Sam E, Craig softman etc...

You must be erm...very old then.. They were nearer £3k for my car and have been by far the most expensive insurer on the mkt for the last 2 yrs for people with modded cars under 30!!

I'm 29, never had an accident and have full no claims - some old bans on the license still from 4 yrs ago for speeding!

My car has a few tweaks:

Hybrid Turbo
ecu
fmic
exhaust
filter
headers
wheels
AP 4 pots (added 10%!)
and a few other bits and pieces

What a nightmare to get insurance!!!

and companies like Adrian Flux - dont even pick up the phone - if you can get thru to these muppets.....

Privelege - if you fancy investing in Tracker (useless as I've had one before - as you can get devices that locate these! - I could here the thing on the last car I had - a Cossie) and paying well over the odds

Only one was A Plan - with Axa - unfortunately they are not taking on new business for those with Turbo mods.....

Barclays could beat the quote - i.e price match less say a tenner - but since I'd be stuffed next yr and the Braclays person was an ars*hole who did'nt believe the quote I got from A plan with loads of mods - I decided to stick with them with more mods than last year but a reduced quote -partly cos I dont account for the mods - as we all know they dont add any value AT ALL to the car!

I'm not one of the big boys, but i do have a slightly modded motor, plus it's a jap import, so insurance can be 'interesting'

having trouble writing about insurance in the ligth of what is going on in the world, but,

heavily modded yes, btu power is not above 280bhp. I simply reduce teh boost level with each power increasing mod to get a max of 280bhp. With privilege, mods dont increase premium unless they up power (not torque ) or increase value of car. If they do increase value, I just make sure privilege know that I dont consider the parts a price increase.

Steve McC - not VERY old - but I had 6 years no claims discount when your parents celebrated your birth ! (and luckily no claims since your birth!). I also live in Suffolk.
I do remember some problems trying to insure a Lotus 7 when I was a student !!

What - you mean I have to pay for Insurance as well as all the mods?

Didn't have to pay a penny extra for the Link - you know these Japanese cars need it for the UK fuel - m'lud.

Plus a power run at PowerStation that came in at a salutory 272.5 (the 0.5 is important at PS) BHP!

Did'nt have to quote bhp to A-plan

They automatically just load the policy for the mods you state.

When I quoted the previous 277hp (Powerstation of course!) to a few brokers they just said 'your having a laugh'....

I think Priveleges quote was £1650 ish - and they required me to put Tracker on.. That compares to circa £1230 with A plan.

Next year when I have no bans I'm expecting it to be below £1k -esp. as the value is falling - otherwise the girlfriend can insure it - at least she does'nt have to be the registered keeper!

Sorry Stan - just thought that was a ridiculously low quote. Then again mines an imported sti5 - think I stated the value to be circa £18k
