My MY99 wagon's just got back from her 52,500 mile service. I provided my own oil and they didn't have to do any diagnostic checks (won't work with Link ECU). They did do the 3 year bodywork check (which was fine).

The cost? Almost £170!!!!

I'm seriously thinking of complaining to the dealer - seems rather excessive for changing the oil and checking bits and pieces. But before I do, what sort of money have others been charged for the 52.5K service (+ bodywork check)?

Hi David,

When they did the bodycheck on mine, it involved spraying waxoyl into the cavities, and the charge was around 100+ quid.

Add to that the 35 quid they're bound to charge you for the oil service, and the vat, and it's about right, right?

My MY00 is in for the same service tomorrow - been quoted £140 "parts/labour/vat" including oil but without the body service. Looking at the schedule the only parts used will be the oil & filter. Grrr.

That sounds about right to me.

The last service i had to have on my MY00 was an intermediate service, and i provided my own oil, the cost for that including 2 new wiper blades was £102 inc VAT.

Cant remeber how much the new wiperblades cost exactly, but doesn't seem far wrong to me.

What’s this ‘supplied my own oil’ business?
Why would you do that?
Sounds a bit obsessive to me ;-)

Regacy,

I always provide my own oil too. Ever since i put my last car in for a service and when i asked the mechanic what oil he put in it he said "I don't know... it's good oil though... we use it on all the cars we service". The car required fully synth and states that on the sticker next to the oil filler cap.

End result was the mechanic flushing the car again and filling with Mobil 1. (while being watched by me).... coybows!!!

Needless to say... it was the last time they got anywhere near my car.

Question

Marty, do you watch them put the oil in?

If not then it's probably gone home with the mechanic for his Nova and you've got the 'I don't know' variety.

They probably wouldn't put it in because they think it's an insult anyway.

IMHO

Ahh bless 'em, theyre sooo nice!

I'll check what the "usual" oil is. I used to religiously buy Mobil 1 for my Astra GSi - but I also reckon the spotty mechanic was bunging it in his Nova.

F*ck off saying mechanics steal things! It's totally unfounded and more than likely untrue I worked in garages for 8 years and never stole from customers.

OK there are a few bad eggs in the motor trade, find me a trade where there aren't!Do you watch your plumber fixing your washing machine.... he might be secretly running a pipe round to his own house!

Leave the guy to do his job, I'm sure he wouldn't go to your work and tell you how to sweep up

Bob, sorry for ranting but I take it personally when someone has a go at the motor trade
