Question

Better sound or performance as well?

I am just going for a SS backbox for now. Did you notice any difference in PERFORMANCE (I know the sound is great) with just a backbox?

Absolutely. With a cat gone, there is a considerable change in 'delivery'. I havent found the car any faster, but it seems as though the pick up of my turbo (MY97) is of a much more urgent nature. The power seems to flow so much more freely, like its breathing better. But the sound is good enough excuse, its awesome.

So you are going to keep it then, despite the Maceedees reaction

When I left Pete's, your car was in the air having the centre section re-fitted as they didn't have time to take out the Cat afterall..

Laters, or earliers looking at the time...

Question

BlowDog
If you like the noise your car makes now might I suggest you get an induction kit also, if you don't already have one that is.

Danny,
I dont know the name. Unfortunately, im a bit of a dumbo when it comes to mechanical terms and sometimes, I dont even know what good it does. All i know is that it makes a lovely sound and certainly gets the looks (dont know if its for the right reasons though ).

Its a non-recirulatory one though, i know that much. I should imagine i will take it off after Donnington, its too loud to tolerate for long.

If you are in the area, gimme a bell and we'll go for a listen.

Unhappy

Excuse my ignorance, but is the "psssssht"
all down to the blow off valve? I take it you mean the noise similar to the noise the WRC cars make when they're on full chat.
Why would an induction kit make this noise any better or worse?

An induction kit would not make any difference to the noise the dump valve makes, but does add to the cacophany of noise the produces, more whooshing and whatever when you drive the car.

On a re-circulating dump valve set-up, you can hear the air being dumped more clearly with an Induction Kit fitted. The plastic airbox assembly, which is removed when fitting the Induction Kit, does a good job of masking the noise in it's original set-up.

PEELY - The dumping of air (Psssssht) takes place when you come off the gas between changes and not on full chat.

Cheers

I think ScoobySport supply the Evo Bailey Dump Valves..

Cem's dump valve is all nice and polished...and rumour is he is going to polish the rest of his engine bay and colour code his dashboard

Anyhow, what goes around comes around Cem...and for all that stick i gave ya...now my Blitz Cone is on....i have a very similar sound...albeit not as loud!

I cant tell you how good they work, but they look very well made (i spent 12 years making Formula 1 stuff) Perhaps Cem can let you know how well it works I am not sure on the prices, but think they are comparable to others.

Well, I paid something in the region of £150 for mine. It differs in sound to conventional dump valves. Instead of going PSSHHT, it goes PSSST. It can be very entertaining at times, other times, in traffic for example if you are heavy on the throttle, it can be a little annoying. It is, however, easy to control by maintaining conservative throttle use. By keeping it under 3000 revs, you can control whether it goes off or not. It certainly gets the looks in town though.

In terms of noticable difference in power dilevery, i have noticed none. I can pretty safetly say that this is a purely aural modification. I will keep it till Donnington maybe, then take it off and put the old one back on. Its application is a 5 minute job, so if you know what you are doing, you can swap em over when and where you please.
If you are in my area (N London), gimme a shout and you can have a listen.

Cem
