When will the MY99 / 00 prices overtake the bug eye?

Just watching Top Gear last night and they were discussing the £3000 discount on MY02 cars. Advice was to hang on and buy a 2nd hand one as the 2nd hand prices would have to reflect these discounts....
So, assuming this does not affect the non bug eye models, will there be an overtaking maneuver in prices? I have seen MY01's go for 13k and MY00 are still around 12k for a good one, surely they cant go much lower? I would also imagine the earlier cars are still more desireable too than a bug eye too, which would keep the prices up?
Quite bad for the bug eyes??

Matt,
It was a serious question, I don't read a lot of the posts on here so my apologie if it has been done before. If it was meant in jest you would have known about it
I have a 99 and am interested in the future market...

expression). At a time when MY01/02 owners are looking at the MY03 as a threat to what remains of the value of the car Subaru in attempt to get rid of the stock slash £3,000 of the price of a new one.
Not exactly a happy time for those owners, especially those that have just bought an MY02 and missed out on the price cut.
You post seemed, to me at least, to be celebrating yet another kick from Subaru to the MY01/02 owners. Which is not really in the spirit of the Simon trying to regain some of the Scoobynet Community spirit.
I apologise if I misread you post.

I don't think in the long run the residual prices will be that badly effected. They may drop in the short term but they should settle in the longer term.
I think this will be the case for both classic and old-newage(
).

Personally I think the classics will plummet further in price!
For example, who'd buy say a slightly worn 30k MY00 when you could buy a mint 15k MY01/2 for about the same money. Whilst a lot of people prefer the classic shape car surely common sense would prevail and thus by the laws of supply and demand the price of the classic would have to fall proportionally.

If you check you'll find that I have edited the post as your clarification of your point had not been posted yet.
I posted this last week and the post just fell to bits with little serious debate.
Do to work pc hassles, I am unable to post smilies for some strange reason so I agree sometimes it can become a bit awkward, and I'm sure there are some other peeps with the same hassles.
No bad feelings at all and please re-read and check that my post was immediately suitably edited....
Peace and love (unless you are a Man utd fan!!!)

Scoob residuals are falling, quicker than the anvil in a Wile-E-Coyote cartoon. They've been falling like this for 2-3 years now, and will continue to do so.
I'd advise people to stop getting upset about it and start driving the cars - the enjoyment easily offsets the monetary cost. Nobody ever bought an impreza without knowing that they were likely to lose shedloads of money the moment they drove it out of the showroom (just like any other car).
They're not an investment, so stop acting like they are!

I still think the bug eye will always be worth more.
Supply and demand, and all that. Lets be honest with a set of morettes they make a classic look a little dated, there seems to be little doubt that they actually handle better too, they are ....well....just a bit lardy.
Does it really matter? Its just a mass produced Japanese car, not many of these actauly hold their value do they?

my classic 95 is worth sfa....do I care...NOPE....cost me nearly 10k over 2 years ago, I have spent £7k on it in 2 years...that's £17k
at the same time I bought a 1990 mitsubishi VR4 2 years ago for £5k, then spent 2k on it....1 year later sold it for 1k....did I moan....NOPE....why, cos you buy daft performace cars so what do you expect....
If you don't like losing money, buy a big fookoff house in the best area you can then every night check the local property guide to see how much richer you are

SiPie,
I think so... I certainly hope so!
Daveyboy,
It is actually not to hard to shed some weight of the MY01/02, or any car TBH. Just look at reducing the rotational weight, that is where the biggest comparative gains on de-larding can be made.
Debate,
Second hand car prices will always slide unless you are lucky enough to own one of the few cars that actually makes money.

Guess I'm running scared at the moment with a MY99 with 83,200 miles on it!
How much have i got to pay the prospective buyer to take it away?

I lost 6k on my STI in 2 years, when I sold it I was sad to see it go, not cos of the money cos of the fact it was going!!!
And it was more luck than judgement that my new WRX I got on 2yr contract hire rather than buy (phew). So as for the future you cannot change it and you cannot predict it!!!

not so.
if you had bought one new in 1997 you could have made a profit flogging it the same day
there was a six month waiting list back then
