also by Tiggs - "all i do know is that my car is faster that nearly EVERY OTHER car i pass on the road and thats what sells them." quite right (unless the other car happens to be a classic of course!!!)
seriously though, this is absolutely true. if you read the magazines then it seems like just about every other car on the road will destroy an Impreza. but in the real world, the roads are not full of RSs, type Rs, Clio cups, etc. If I were stupid enough to want to race every single car I came across, I would expect to win nearly every time. fortunately I dont feel the need to prove anything so I just enjoy the car for what it is. personally I couldnt give a damn how much it is worth. in fact, when I bought my first MY99 3 years ago, I paid 1500 quid over the list price for a car which was 2 months old cos I didnt want to wait several months for it. stupid perhaps, but I have never regretted it one little bit.

Hi all,

I have recently changed car, and don't have a Scoob.

However, if I got one it would be the bug-eye - I think it looks fantastic, aggressive and distinctive. Stick on Morets - even better.

The old version looked like 'any other car' - before getting flamed, I am not saying it looks bad. The new '03 looks ugly ugly ugly.

As for the residuals. I think the price reduction is a terrible thing for current owners. However, don't worry that much as ALL manufacturers do this when changing a model - however, the only difference is that they normally offer large discounts instead of changing the list price - both IMHO will affect the resuduals equally.

As for the discount affecting the older models - you can bet that if the Bug-eye beauty is impacted, the old version will he hurt, proportionally, just as bad.

Long live the bug

don't get me wrong, there are some fugly's on this board that now look stunning, after bodykit mods, wheels, lowered etc & obviously they handle better, stiffer body, etc......standard to standard that it.

BUT at the end of the day Subaru slipped up, as have other manufacturers (but it effected subaru more as they are deemed to be one of the higher ranked performance cars in that price range)
by leaving the power that same but adding weight....it IS that simple. If they had equiped the new one's with 280bhp & torque to match, would ANY of these threads exist...
prob not.

EDITED TO ADD - should have been applicable bhp, so 320 ?? ish for the STI 7 for instance.....& 280 for the standard UK models

after reading my reply....the standard to standard bit doesn't quite read properly....(trying to build an exchange server inbetween replying)
what I mean is that I think everyone agrees that the classic-fugly handles better than the classic.
I also think that the choice of colour for the classic-fugly does make it look vastly different, whereas with the classic it didn't really seem to matter a great deal...they all looked good (apart from silver with gold wheels...bad choice)

EH?
But surely all this discussion seems to neglect one thing - EVOLUTION and not Mitsi's. How long would you like to be driving classics for? or do you want to be moving forward (some will argue less performance is not progress) but surely build quality and safety have to rule, it seems if this point of view was prevelant in the car industry we would all be driving Model T Fords and there would be no such thing as a Subaru,

Cool

You want low cost of ownership?

Look here!

OK - its not a scooby but if you're worried about running costs and depreciation, then its for you

Cool

My MY00 is so much fun I aim to keep it for years (already spent too much money on depreciation in the past) so I may actually see it reach 'classic' status. That's my choice

Whatever, let's stop slagging off each others' choices and stick together like the bunch of enthusiastic petrol-heads that we all are.

Puff - thats bad news, I always seem to buy with my heart instead of my head....no wonder I always loads shedloads of cash...mind you I don't whinge like half the ******* on here as if it was a matter of life & death!!
ps - hope you find a job as well

jaf - so you don't own a scoob then....you still can have an opinion though, but just don't let Tiggs know, as I think you have to check with him to see if your opinion is right before you can post it
