My mate is coming over from the states next week and has asked me if i wanted anything bringing over. I have been looking to buy a detector but cannot decide which one. The valentine one looks a decent bit of kit but a bit pricey in the uk. If he gets me one from the states will it work properly over here.

Get the Valentine, but make sure it's the latest version, which has, I think it's Ku band. Even simpler, make sure it has Laser, X, K, Ka, and Ku bands. Some older versions are missing either Ku or Ka, it's one of the two, I can't remember. It will work in the UK. Just make sure it has those bands posted above.

Ideally you should (get your mate to) also get the remote display for the V1.

As the detector is designed for the US market, the unit is angled for left hand drive vehicles. The remote display can be placed where you can easily see it.
