I recently upgraded my "works" transit to the latest 2.5 turbo duratec diesel engine LWB model thinking I'd be able to take on the Merc Sprinters.....no way man they still fly past when we are in 3 figure speeds !!!!!

At work we've got the latest LDV Convoys fitted with the Duratorq 2.5 tirbodiesel and it categorically refuses to go over 75mph on the flat.I don't know if it's got a different final drive(I'm assuming it's also the Ford gearbox-very closely sited gears)to the tranny but it's revving it's t*ts off at that.
They also excel at brake induced oversteer, literally on demand.

Mercedes have put speed limiters on the Sprinter, as you have rightly guessed they are the fastest vans around.
On a test track they will crack a real(not indicated)115mph on the flat. As such Mercedes have limited them, so they don't run above the speed rating of their tyres. Even the least powerful will do 83mph, the limiters for the fastest I think are set at 105mph, which is plenty for most white van men.
The one to watch out for is the 316CDI LWB, as its the most powerful and aerodynamic version. 156bhp and about 230lb ft of torque if I remember correctly.
