try doing an E brake turn, its bloody hard work in a US bloater as you dont have a handbrake, you have this bloody stupid pedal next to the normal 2 (edited to put 2 cos its an auto ) you have to slam on with your foot, you then have to release it by pulling a lever on the dash. LOL
Takes a certain amount of co-ordination, but its doable.

i would highly recommend hiring a mustang auto (hertz do them) and trying out the easiest burnout you could imagine. Just stick it in drive and slam both pedals to the floor It's spin on the spot all day ... or until the tyres explode. Smells a bit though

OK, I'm out in Chicago on business, and have already seen two Impreza's (one saloon and one wagon) both new style which "look" like our well loved WRX (bonet scoops etc). Last time I was here I didn't see any, and I know I'd seen complaints that people couldn't get the turbos sue to US regulations - has this changed and how wide is ownership now?
Guess there won't be many in the UK with the answer, but hopefully there are members from the USA as well...
Cheers,
Nick

P.S the brakes are $hit, they get smaller spec brakes in the USA to save on cost. Funny that, the most litigeous nation on the planet gets less ability to avoid a crash.

Not saying a word - I've got one of those nice hire cars with automatic gearboxes where you engage park then it lurches forward a foot - just as well the parking spaces are huge.
Still, on that note I'll move over here - after all if the cars are cheaper and the cost of fuel is so low my cost of living would halve over night

There are lot of differences. Smaller wheels, brakes as John said. Some fancy fuel thingie, heater controls. Crap petrol - allegedly. I'd buy one.

Well, Japan's WRX got the 2 pot brakes, 16" wheels etc std at release. Only the WRX type NB-R (released much later) gets 17"s and 4 pots/2 pots...but it also gets VERY stiff dampers that are a bit tiring IMHO.
The UK (or anywhere that gets the 17" wheels w/4 pots/2 pots) is getting it good IMHO.

Can't speak for the US, but there's definitely bugeyes around in Toronto, and the WRX is being marketed hard in Canada. Saw a couple of US-Plate 'Old-style' wagons badged "Sport" but with long narrow intake and twin tail pipes - what'd that be??
Don't suppose that Canadian with the fully-stickered WR Blue WRX spotted in Kitchener-Waterloo is on the board???? Thought not!

Phil,
I think the old style sports you saw might have been the 2.5 RS (what america originally got instead of the WRX). They have the same bonnet scoop, just for looks though cuz they don't have turbos. They're pretty decent cars but still not up to classic WRX spec.

A lot of the earlier US Imprezas were all NA ranging from 1.8L to 2.2. Then they gave us the 2.5L with the RS. Now days, all NA Subies are the 2.5L.
Have a friend with a very built 2.5. Looks like a v5, but oh lord... the stock clutch gives way at 4k rpm.

Hey Nick B... I'm Nick B too ;-)
Like I always said; North America... The third world of Automobile!! lol
Just to say, the EJ20T officially got to our shore for the first time in 2001 in the WRX... Except for the few odd people swaping a JDM import engine in the Impreza's (GC8) or Legacy (BF/BC) like me!!!
It is like if the less the car manufacturer gives us, the more car they sell!! Strange uh? On top of that, we (canadian) have to suffer from what the USA want's on the market... I mean, being less then them in number, they get to chose hat in or out!!! So all to nice little nibble sport car are usely out... I won't tell you why 'cuz I don't want to look like someone who put's everyone in the same category.
Anyway, we finally got the WRX here and Mitsubishi decided to sell cars starting september in Canada... But no Evo's yet!!!
But we got snow!!! Ton's of snow (6 month a year)... Like the Subaru slogan;
The Beauty of All Wheel Drive

Does Canada follows US type approval regs? Cos I've read that years ago, the Canadians have reciprical type approval regs with Norway, hence they had a batch of Euro spec E36 M3 with 286bhp engines on sale there.
