Where can I get a prodrive backbox and how much do they cost? Is it best to go private or can you get one new?

Cheers

DSHD ?

Prodrive back boxes are branded 'WR Sport' and are availiable through official Subaru Dealers. The quality is top notch so there is no reason why you cannot buy second hand, unless you want it shiny

DSHD-About £350 from your local Subaru dealer. Should be able to get it fitted as well for that much and always worth asking for a minimum 10% discount on extras.

Good luck.
Gareth.

Not all Prodrive backboxes are branded WR Sport, sport - there is also the P1 backbox that people seem to be calling the "Prodrive Back Box" these days. £3ooish from dealers, or about £60-£80 from Scoobynet For Sale section

That would be the P1 backbox that has the STi branding on it then, cos its the standard STi backbox ? Or the P1 only backbox that has P1 branding on it and is only available to P1 owners!

The P1 Prodrive exhaust has a round tail pipe as does the PPP exhaust.

The Prodrive WR exhaust has an oval tail pipe.

Be wary of secondhand P1 exhausts as they probably will just be the original STi item removed to fit either a Prodrive or Scoobysport aftermarket item.

If you don't mind 'Scorpion' instead of 'P1' (exactly the same bar the branding), then fill your boots for a lot less

Cheers for all the advice. I am buying some wheels at the moment so money is a bit tight, but I have a couple of questions:-

I've seen the scorpion exhausts advertised, 200 for the backbox, 300 for the full system. How much difference is having the full system as opposed to just the backbox going to make (in terms of power, noise etc)?

Do you need to tell your insurance company if you change any part of your exhaust?

You should tell your insurers - normally there is only a small charge as long as power doesn't go up >10%. Tesco charged me around £30 extra, but this was on renewal, you may get an admin charge on top if you change part way through the policy.

I doubt whether you'd get 20bhp (+10%) even with a complete system, but check with the manufacturer.

Subary claim 'up to' 20% increase for the PPP, but this is ECU and intercooler changes as well as exhaust.

Thumbs up

I have just fitted a Scoobysport back box to my RB5 which is otherwise standard apart from Mintex pads and it has made quite a difference (apart from having to drive with the windows down at the moment!)

I have definitely felt an improvement in pick up on opening the throttle and it generally feels more responsive throughout the rev range. Money well spent in my opinion.

PPP on <=MY00 is 215 to 237bhp (218 to 240PS) which is 10% to 2 significant figures! My insurance gets silly if I go beyond this with a chip, but the exhaust seems to count separately - including a downpipe. The 20% increase is in the midrange power and torque, the peak power is around 10% hence PPP is quite insurance friendly.
