My mate has a Magenta saff, Was it running Escort wheels with a M.A. Developments sticker on the screen? His is poking out 350 bhp and the car is obscenely rapid. his exhaust on full chat is soooooo loud, it sounds like a tornado!

360 to 400hp can be very reliable in a cossy. High power cossies are generally rear wheel drive because anything greater that 350hp destroys the diffs on the 4wd's.

Astraboy...

In my opinion I would never race any cosworth with the sticker M.A.Developments on it... or Reyland MotorSports....

I saw this car tonight, I was just leaving the services at M1 junction 22 tonight, pulled out onto the A50 behind the afformentioned car, a really mint looking H plater. He then went at about 50mph, so I slowly overtook. However, at the next roundabout exit, he was RIGHT up my exhaust pipe, obviously provoking me, so childishly I nailed it up to *ahem* 70, officer! I should add that this was a stretch of empty dual carriageway before anyone starts, by the way. Anyway, just as I changed into 5th, I glanced in my mirror, and he's even closer, and flashing his lights at me! So, I moved over and *JESUS* this thing went by like I was parked, and then treated me to a quite spectacular 'flame display' for about 15 seconds as he slowed down!
He gave me a wave (and, I dare say, a snigger! ) as he turned off.
I don't know who this chap is, but I'd just like to thank him for brightening up an otherwise dull evening, and making my WRX seem bl00dy slow! (...in a straight line, anyway! )

Orville,

Tell me more about this diff destroying bhp in cossies!! Ive got an Escort Cosworth running 380bhp, and I don't want the diff to go bye bye just after my gearbox has gone bye bye!! I would rather know now so I can save up

Pete

But anyway, I have raced lots of subarus and EVO's and slaughted them all!! My cossie rules!!

Peter,
If you haven't had to replace your gearbox with a strengthened gear set already, then it is highly unlikely you have 380bhp (unless you drive like a fairy and don't accelerate hard in third gear ). A genuine 380bhp will strip the teeth of this gear in a matter of a few aggressive accelerations. Just ask Jay B what his 415bhp did to THREE upgraded gearboxes so far ....

Mike,

good to hear yur voice on here again,

Havnet seen you around here for some time.

Just a quick question.

was reading a feature in a fast ford?? magazine last nigth about loads of cosworths going for a top speed record.

You were in there as a record holder at 180.6 but broke it to get 180.9mph (well done).

But there was one page with a large 183.something caption at the bottom.

Due to going out before the restaurants closed, I didn't get a chance to see if this car got that figure.

I presume from your post that you still hold the record. Is this true? If so, where was this 183 thing from?

Adam,
Yeah he beat me, but his is a Three-door and mine is a Sapphire, so I can still claim fastest of this breed...

There were some contentious circumstances - Bruce could not get above 178mph (after several attempts) in the conditions we were trying in (30°C ambients) and had to resort to getting Mark Shead of MAD (a s h i t hot driver) to have a go for him. With some superlative driving Mark managed a 180.1mph run, but then despite a few more attempts could not better that, so gave up trying. I then went out and got 180.9 on my third run (didn't bother doing anymore, as I had beaten them ). They then took the photos and I packed up thinking we were all going to go home. However, Bruce decided to stay on, but I had other things planned so left at 1600. With a tweek of the boost and the resultant drop in ambients at 1800, they finally cracked it and got 182.7mph, but obviously I was back in Norwich by this time and could not retaliate.

However to be fair, I could have only probably got 183-5mph and they could have raised the stakes again by putting the boost up a bit further anyway, to which I wouldn't have been able to respond without risking the engine.

But as I keep saying to Bruce, in like for like conditions, he got his **** kicked by 0.8mph...
LOL

Mark,
I stand corrected....

Pete,
Start paying your respects to this gearbox before it dies a sudden death like the last . The minimum you will require is a specially uprated 'box from DP Motorsport at £2½k. This gives a semi-straight cut first, second and third with hardened fourth and fifth....
Best regards

Mike,

I disagree, I think a 'good' standard box will cope with 380Bhp without problem. As for Jay B's uprated gearboxes breaking, a callasped Input Shalf bearing and broken blocker rings are not stripped teeth!!!

As for your diffs Pete stop worrying, still to break one yet on my car and it's got a shed load more power and torque than yours!

Dan

Thanks mate, no takers yet though!
It had a small green sticker on the boot lid with the name of some tuning company. I think it was 'turbo ....' something or other (surprisingly! )
It was lowered on largish (17"?) wheels. Oh, and there were three people in it, I was on my own in mine! Now, my scoob had 272bhp last time on the rollers, it's by no means slow, but this thing pi55ed past!
C'mon, where are ya!?

Adam,
I am the driver of the car that whupped Mikes **** I cannot believe he is now on here trying to justify why he lost, how sad

Let look at Mikes statements, full of inaccuracy as usual

quote:
There were some contentious circumstances - Bruce could not get above 178mph (after several attempts) in the conditions we were trying in (30°C ambients) and had to resort to getting Mark Shead of MAD (a s h i t hot driver) to have a go for him. With some superlative driving Mark managed a 180.1mph run, but then despite a few more attempts could not better that, so gave up trying'....

what a load of tosh ...this is what did actually happen. We did BOTH do a lot of runs, with me actually achieving 180.2, not 178mph...so no offence to Mark, but with the car in the same condition - I went faster than him....so I must be a SUPER **** hot driver , by this time we had realised all was not well - as the car was not performing as it should be.......

quote:
I then went out and got 180.9 on my third run (didn't bother doing anymore, as I had beaten them. They then took the photos and I packed up thinking we were all going to go home.

unbelievable !!!...I cannot believe Mike has actually had the ***** to write this rubbish...what actually happened was Mike left saying ' I could not have gone any faster round the bend, I could not have gone any quicker up the straight, I could not have braked any later, so if you beat that (180.9) you are welcome to it' ....and of he went, this was witnessed by lots of people, and it written in the mag, who also witnessed it.

quote:
However, Bruce decided to stay on, but I had other things planned so left at 1600. With a tweek of the boost and the resultant drop in ambients at 1800, they finally cracked it and got 182.7mph, but obviously I was back in Norwich by this time and could not retaliate.

It gets better, I just feel sorry for you lot that Mike can come on here and spout such boiiocks....the event was an all day event, I had been having problems all morning, I knew my car would be faster than Mikes, but it wasn't happening. I did another run just after Mike left (with the comments above)...and promptly ran out of petrol !!!...so of I went to find a jerry can big enough to get fuel from the garage. Whilst I was gone Mark checked my car out to see why it was not performing, and found the problem. The car is mapped to run 36psi of boost, it was only running 31psi !!!...so the quick tweek of the boost Mike talks about was actually Mark putting it right....the VERY NEXT recorded run I did acheived 182.6mph, so the FIRST run I did with near proper boost got the record...believe me when I say...it did it easy

quote:
However to be fair, I could have only probably got 183-5mph and they could have raised the stakes again by putting the boost up a bit further anyway, to which I wouldn't have been able to respond without risking the engine.

rubbish again, if Mike could get 183-5mph...why didn't he ?....and yes I can turn the boost up further...something else Mike forgot to mention is that when I did beat him, I did it on only 33psi of boost, the car can run 36psi....so bring on Mike....my car can run full power WITHOUT blowing up or needing 8 degrees of ignition retard...why dont you tell them about that then ????

quote:
But as I keep saying to Bruce, in like for like conditions, he got his **** kicked by 0.8mph...
LOL

yeah right, that why when we met at Donnington I left you for dust, when I was not even on full boost, just for you to come up with the best excuse ever ' I got stuck behind a fiesta' LOL, LOL....the same one I had just mashed

P.S. I will not be following up this post as I have enough of getting into this argument with Mike trying to explain how 182.6mph does not actually beat 180.9

----------

Bruce Read - lunatic driver of the 182.6mph 3dr Sierra Cosworth

Mark Shead - 07768 356204 - the man behind M.A.Developments and who built the worlds current fastest road going Sierra/Sierra Cosworth/Sierra 3dr Cosworth at 182.6mph on 97 RON!!!!!

This is getting good.

In this months Redline magazine Martin Hadlands Escort Cos got 186 mph I think with a 0-60 of 3.58 . Still not as fast as his 550 bhp mondeo now that was a beast, I think that could top out over 190mph

Sounds like it could have been Castle Performance's car.

It wasn't bondy

on the A50 most cossies are gonna seem fast tho compared to the average scoob as not many are below 300bhp.
