Do Microwaves effect the immobiliser?
#1
On Saturday stopped at garden centre, ran in ran out (it was raining), all of two minutes, car wouldn't start, seemed like it was still immobilised (i.e. no ignition, airbag or any of the other indicators lit). Had to wait 10 minutes before it would start. Coincidentally this was within a 100 yards of where the car had conked out months previously. A quarter of an hour later approaching a slip road to get on the bypass the car just cuts out -not nice especially with the nipper in the back. In all it happened six times that day. Then I noticed that thorouhout all this palaver the signal for the mobile was very strong. Now where I live the signal is very weak and I never encounter this problem. Is there a connection or I am talking out of my.......hat.

I've heard of MPV's with a fridge but a Scoob with a Microwave!! thats a new one.
Try to avoid using it when you are driving, as they contents tend to slide about anyway. Should cure your problems.

Is your car a Jap import?
Only asking because I know that Clifford Concept 600s are modified for Jap Wrxs as its wireless fuel cut off immobiliser interferes with the ECU which is apparently very susceptible to interference.
Not an expert on this, just guessing really.

Don't think cell sites would cause this, reason being that if they did you'd have had the problem a lot earlier. Also different providers have different strength signals in different areas, I get virtually no Cellnet where I live (convenient for a silent phone when I'm home but Vodaphone in the same area is very strong.

GCS,
my last car was an MGF, and had big problems with both the immobiliser and microwaves.
For some reason, the car would not start - PERIOD - whatever you did. Transponder in the key, alarm enable/disable - absolutely nothing. Very embarasing in petrol stations!!!
Also, one day i microwaved a burger in my kitchen (rather than grilled it), and it sent the alarm mental. Thats 'cos the sensors were, er, microwave.
However, no such problems with my MY00 Scoob!

Ooooooooh, yes.
A group of us from W.Yorks meet stopped up at J22 of the M62, right next to all the transmitting paraphernalia on top of Saddleworth Moor.
Now luckily, I left my engine running, those who didn't had to manually disarm, and we had to push Bal's car down the hill until it went out of range (200 yards or so), cos he didn't know his code. (Mainly MY00 turbos).
We had stopped there previously, but it was raining so nobody turned their engine off!!
Wouldn't stop there again!!
Edoted to say, no effect when just driving past though.

Had exactly the same problem at a hotel in Coventry last year.
Remote wouldn't work - went off got new batteries. Got back; still wouldn't work. Got tow - started fine.
Next morning same problem - then noticed mobile telephone relay aerial on hotel roof. Pushed car to other end of car park - no further problems.
Next night a guy in a Golf parked near where I had been originally had exactly the same problem!
Nuff said!
