Would you let your mate drive your car?
#1
Mate of mine wants to borrow my car to impress his new girlfriend,
now he drives his own car like a loon, he must have 3 months drive through empties in it and he smokes.
So though he's a mate, I said NO !!!! Was I right or wrong ??

I have let a few of my mates drive my car while I am in it but unless I completely trusted them I wouldn't lend them it. You have to take into consideration that without you in the car they will probably go ballistic in it as most people don't own cars that fast and will they be able to handle a car that quick if they haven't driven something like it before. Plus does your friend know about the extra TLC that a turbo car needs i.e. warming it up before booting it, letting it cool down properly before switching off. For these reasons I have had to turn down a couple of my friends who have asked me to lend them the car so I do not think you have done the wrong thing.

You did the right thing, cause he would probably drive it even more like a loon. Let my mate drive mine, accompanied, and he just drove it like a nutter, never again. Had to tell him to stop. Cant imagine what he would drive it like if i was not in it.
How would she be impressed, more likely to be scared sihtless.

None of my friends / family have ever asked cos they've said that they wouldn't like the pay for any damage that could happen plus its a more powerful car than they are used to.
I would never let anyone drive it who wasn't covered fully comp in any third party vehicle either

I have lent my car to some of my friends both with me in it and not, but other friends of mine wouldn't get a go, even with me as passenger. At the end of the day it's all down to trust.
One of the friends that I would lend the scoob to actually wrote one of my cars off a long time ago but I was partly to blame because I was racing him in somebody elses at the time

Abolutely NO
However, this problem doesn't crop up too often for me, as I have no m8s
My best man's wife loves bikes & would love to go out for a blast on the back of my gixer, but he is dead set against it and considers him consenting to this is the same as him consenting for me to have sex with her She can only ever go on the back of his GS850 - poor girl
Guess its something like that for me and anyone who wants to drive PTMW! In fact, anyone is welcome to my wife

Absolutely do NOT give him access to the car.
Sounds like all the wrong reasons to let him drive, plus if you're a non smoker, do you want that stink clinging to the car ?
I let SaxoBoy drive my car, however it was purely because I was recovering from an operation and wanted to keep the car running rather than leave it for weeks without use.
I've only met Saxo once before, but he lives very close and I trusted him enough.

hmm, depends how good a mate he is. When I'm away in the states I leave the car with my brother, as I trust him, and there are a few other people (ok, two) who i'd be more than happy to look after the car whilst I'm not here.
Can't see why turning up in your mates car would impress a girl, well, guess it shows maybe that he can be trusted.
Guess the nearest I'd get to this would be asking an associate of mine if I could borrow one of his classic cars to pick up somone in, but that's different.

Don't worry I drove it like a princess. Nice length warm up, couple of full-boost runs on bypass to get everything working swimmingly and then a nice lengthy cool down. Pushed her on an dead quite roundabout to see when the front would let go. It didn't That sold me geometry settings and bumpsteer
I'd consider letting some of my friends drive my car but only ones I knew I could really trust and would treat it the way I wanted it to be treated. I let one mate drive it with me in it and he held it on the clutch on a very steep hill with 3.5k rpm running through it for about 40 seconds I screamed at him after about 5 secs to put the handbrake on but he knew better Clutch honked!!!! Fortunatly when it comes to cars he's a ditsy **** so I forgave him.....just!!! Also, let sipie drive but then I knew he wouldn't drive someone else like his own. I'd say it's defo ok to let a fellow Impreza driver in your car because the temptation to boot it won't be there but if a mate lent me a 911, TVR or M3 I might be tempted to give it some stick.

Lent mine to a friend who is a good driver. However, I forgot to mention treating the clutch carefully. He was only gone a few minutes and came back with the clutch smelling really bad. Big mistake methinks.

Depends on the ability of the driver. I let Paul Palmer drive my Cossie and the astra when it is on the nitrous. I let him cos I know he has ability. Okay he rinses the car out a bit but I know he wont stack it cos he doesent stack cars. To date he's done 2 high speed laps of Brunters and a lengthy donut session at RAF elvington. He's also taken the astra for a nitrous boosted acceleration run but the bill turned up and told us to move on!!!
in other words, yes, but only if they possess the abilty to drive it well, not just point it in the direction they want to go.
astraboy.

At the moment I'm garageless so I keep my TVR at a relatives house. A mate of mine suggested I could use his garage to store it with the rent being he could use it to impress this girl he's started seeing!!! NO WAY, I couldn't believe he had the cheek to ask. And he still asks me the same question every few weeks!!

I generally don't let others drive the Scoob, but I have benefittewd from the generosity of others, including the chap who insisted that I drive his Ferrari 500 Superfast (one of only 36 built). And then there is the mate who let me borrow his Lotus Elan when my car was off the road. More recently he threw me the keys of his STi and told me to go and play. I did, and now I own the thing.

I let anyone I know who wants a drive in my STi have a go but on the condition I dont go with them. Lessens the stress and its insured so doesnt really bother me. I dont see why I should be the only one to enjoy it, seems a bit selfish. I know who has had a decent go when they come back and ask what the flashing red light and beeping from the dash was...

NOOOOOOOO!! Don't do it. You will worry constantly what he's doing to the poor car!! Breaks my heart to let my boyfriend drive mine. He's terrible when he get's behind the wheel. Complete loony. Anyway, can't remember who said it but why does he think that a girl would be impressed by him turning up in a borrowed car? Is he so ugly that he needs a gorgeous car to impress her?!
