Thumbs up

Some of my mates have TVRs, including a Griff 500 and Tuscan. I went to their club's BBQ at Duxford on Saturday and the club were kind enough to let me join in on the fun on the airstrip, along with 220 TVRs, a Corvette and a 348.
They let us on in groups of 20 and queued up to have a blast down the long straight, starting with a harsh 40mph dip/right-hander onto the straight which was a good 100 yards wide and a couple of miles long, then brake hard at the end and pootle back through the infield at 25mph...did about a dozen 'laps'. Not really racing, but chance to really gun it on a long straight.
The P1 could beat them all appart from the Tuscans through the dip and bend at the start using it's wheel travel and traction. By about 120, I could pass any Grifith (inc 500s) or Cerbera or wedge (including a 460 SEAC which had the biggest exhast I've ever seen). Only the Cerberas and Tuscans could pull away and by their braking point were about 3 lengths ahead. My braking point was about 5 seconds after theirs and I passed them all easily (tens of yards) under braking...you should have seen some of the faces!
Not a single car passed me and stayed ahead for more than a few feet and I must have passed 20 TVRs including 5 Tuscans. I had some good chats with them afterwards and they were amazed with the P1's performance, but particularly the brakes. The owner of a silver Tuscan said he'd been really trying and thought his brakes were going to catch fire.
I went for a couple of laps in my mate's Cerbera speed 6 which could pull about 5 mph more than the P1 (140 vs 135) but he had to start braking a hundred yards before I would have.
I don't want a TVR any more - the performance advantage of even a Tuscan only really becomes obvious above 120 and the brakes on them all are crap!
The P1 is standard appart from Prodrive brakes and back box.
As I parked up, someone in the crowd asked me if I wasn't at the wrong club and I replied that no I wasn't because I can win at this one...the driver of a Griff 500 overheard and said that I had an unfair advantage because the Scoob is just 'too bl00dy fast'.

P1 beats 220 TVRs over a 2 mile straight? What happened, did they all break down before they got to the end of it?

Sounds like fun

I'll be at Duxford on the 19th looking at the toys owned by the Cobra Replica Club....wonder if they'll let my RB5WR on the track with some of them

Fibber - the Cerebra wasn't mine and we all know they have soft wheels, so were unable to launch over the Duxford Kerb without grounding! 0-100 in under 9 secs beats scooby do (in the dry).

Just wait til we get the new one!

Hi Mark (why do you call yourself Ben?)Great BBQ and good to see you all.

Soft wheels? Grounding? Not your car? Any other excuses?

I said that some of the TVRs were faster in a straight line (but not much...0-100 doesn't matter much...on the road over that runway it was just a few feet...I won out over braking where the P1 advantage was tens of yards. No one passed me and stayed ahead once they had to use the brakes. No excuses! See you next year if the new Tuscan stays on the road long enough?????
Cheers Ben/Mark
