****..............been over this hump back bridge a million time over the years in various cars i've owned or borrowed and realistically about 60mph is the limit due to down hill braking after the brow and a mini roundabout, 3 yards and you hit the lights joining the A4....(if anyone knows lional road)......at 60 your diaphram feels the pressure on the decent, been over it in the scoob a few time in sensible mode....but...if anyone see what i did earlier tonite they would be expecting the men in white coats to be wheeling me away on a trolly freshly dressed in one of thier funny jackets that fit back to front.
doin about 65 in third with sum road left and at that point i would usually back off a tad....but my foot went t'other way!
not sure if the wheel left the ground but im sure the dampers fully extended at least....well whatever im still grinnin from it

Did you hear the ‘whining’ sound from the gear box afterwards?

Yep, there is a long straight road near where my girlfriend lives that has a pretty big dip (well it has police warning slow signs both ways). First time I went southbound it was just that lose your stomach feeling as I was doing around 50mph. Next day we went back northbound and I booted it to 80mph and then slowed a little to about 70 and all 4 wheels were off the floor. Was scary how quickly the front of the car dropped once airbourne - if I had a low front splitter Im sure it would have scraped the tarmac

Wouldnt do it again. Would have been better if I had a Dukes of Hazzard Style horn to blast as I was airbourne but hey you cant have everything!

Simon.

did anyone ever see the Ali G sketch where he was talking to three MP/council leaders about some issue or other. Anyway, at some point Ali argued a point and the MP said to him "ahhh, well i can see how you feel about that because you are black"

A smile crept over Ali's face as the whole point of his comedy show was summed up right there, despite all the gags, the oneliners and the funny guests this was what is was all about.

Having read this post i am grinning like Ali !

Just remember that flying cars airbags have a tendancy to go off if you go too fast over a hump!

Neno,

You will notice when you get the cars air borne or just "light" in general as you fly over humps and yumps, that for at least the next couple of miles you will hear a mild kind of whining sound which seems like it comes from the gear box.
Have not heard it in the Sti7 yet...But used to get it all the time in my MY99 wagon.

Jools/Neno - never got such a sound from my car when I did the jump. I dip the clutch and completely let off the throttle at the time.

You can have fun in other cars apart from Subarus as well.

This is a picture of me taken on a closed road as part of a tarmac selective, run by my Motor Club, about twenty three years ago.

Cheers MTR

Now if your talking Flying you need to attack the bridge on the road from the A46 to Long Bennington near Newark it's about a 5 mile straight road with a hump back bridge in the middle of it we have had a few F16 moments from that bridge you can fly quite a distance and the landing is not to bad as the road the otherside comes up to meet you, most of the Rally boys that go to Prepfab motorsport in long Bennington love that road from what Richard Lepley tells us.

There is a certain bridge in chelt (well out in the sticks and closer to glos actually) that now has traffic lights on (weak bridge, single track)(near the airport if you want to try it out )
used to drive the Pug over there at around 75-80. 85 being the bottle point(read fastest so far) I'd have serious air and landed squarley if you came off the ground at constant speed, bottling it before take off usually caused her to come down somewhat nose heavy but stable, on throttle and she would come down *** end first and it would be a fight to keep her out the ditch.
what is the general consensus with the scoob,
On throttle, off throttle, or steady cruise ???

There are a couple of yumps around here (North Devon - Bideford) that force a smile on my face. One is a wide back road with a big slidy corner that you have to drift around afterwards, another is on the Bradworthy road wich I regularly get airborne over - good landing, easy air.

Problem is my front bumper has now broken its mountings so they have to be rebuilt... Mechanic spotted it straight away - too many airmiles...

big love mtr, i love the escort.

as for flying over bridges, in my experience, on a privately owned road of course,

...if you bottle it, then your nose is more likely to dive. if you commit, then the momentum helps you carry thru. depending on the terrain and condition/type of vehicle though.

ed_the_duck, I dunno m8 if you wop that one you stand a very high risk of landing on the roofs of the cars waiting for the traffic lights on the other side. Do you know the bridge down the road going towards Iver? I bombed it in my MK1 Golf a few years back and took off, sent one of my suspension struts completely through the wing, Doh!
