Thinking of selling my STi andgetting an S4 Audi Avant but if i look at a 1999-00 model its gonna be around £17-22000 and possibly without any warranty left.
Although i'm in the trade engines gearboxes and diffs still are not cheap!!
Does this worry anybody,it does me a little!!
I think that aftermarket warranties are not worth a W**K
Its my personal opinion anyway

I personally would want a manufacturers warranty on a car in that price range.

Just my opinion

If you can afford the car then....

But they are pretty reliable.

Awful lot of people on here who have spent £25k on an STi and gone and voided the warranty by modding it . . .

I guess what it really boils down to, though, is whether you can afford for it to go wrong. If you know that if it goes wrong, you'll have to get rid of it and lose lots of money, it's a hell of a risk. If you know you'll find a way to pay for the repairs (although clearly it wouldn't be good), it's less of a risk.

I'd do it as I'd never be as happy driving what I thought was a lesser vehicle just because it had a warranty. But I always keep a bit of cash available somewhere in case of emergencies - eg car goes wrong, boiler blows up at home etc, so I'd fit into the lower risk category above.

Don't know if that helps at all?

Bo11ocks to warrantees, I've only ever had one car with a warranty out of 11 I've owned. Chances are I'd blow it anyway

I wouldn't worry too much (except perhaps about your choice of car )... Audi's are well built and its much more likely that a something less expensive will break anyway!

Other thing is, as your buying an S4 you might want to make it quicker, so you'd looks the warranty with that 400bhp upgrade kit anyway

I brought my grey knowing that the aftermarket warranty may only covered the ashtray if it broke

You could be in the same with a lot of cars second hand. You just have to be happy that if anything goes wrong you can afford to put it right yourself.

For your price range you should be able to pick up a higher mileage (but still Audi warrantee'able) S4 from a dealer.
My Audi was very good but I'd still want some come back if I was spending £5k let alone £20k

Frankly, looking at the terms of the aftermarket warranty I've got on my grey import, it is a darn site more comprehensive than the Scooby ones now e.g. look at restrictions on clutches, and drivetrain if you change for unhomologated wheels!!!!
