Never.

And if the missus did I'd divorce her.

Well maybe not, but I'd cut her fingers off

No never, got stuck in one once in an XR2 years ago, it scratched the paintwork too.

Always do it by hand now.

No, Never,

All ways wash mine by hand.
I had heard that the car wash brushes can be very harsh and if used oftern can leave small scratchs or swirls on the paint.

I would also be worried about losing the rear spoiler.

Anyway I bet they use cheap s**t shampoo, and certainly not wax wizxard shampoo or similar.

Graham.

A cardinal sin that NO NEVER!!!

The paint on the scoob is bad enough without a car wash ruining it some more. Plus when I've used them on old cars in the past I always have to go home and do it again anyway

Also wouldn't trust them not to rip the rear spoiler off.......

50% of time through car wash and rest by hand. Always depended how dirty it was. I didn't tuck it into bed at night either, obviously I expect too much. Siler 94 Sti Wagon. Looked fine to me......

Yes, I've done it a couple of times and I've still got the spoilers.
Would like to spend all day washing and polishing but with working long hours and having a demanding missus and sprog don't find the time. Maybe a cardinal sin but it's better than leaving it with Salt\sand\acid rain\bird sh*t\tree sap etc... etc.. all over it.
Init?

Nope, they are road cars with pi55 poor paintwork that just happened to form a good basis for rally cars

Drove behind a 52 Golf last night in Black. Looked like someone had polished the tailgate with a pan scourer. Thats automatic car washes for you ........

Took my STi3 through one, MISTAKE, the brush caught the Mid Level Spoiler and the car juddered forward about two inches with an almighty clatter from the rear.
As you can imagine the drivers seat needed a good clean after that one. Spoiler was ok in the end but never again.

I wouldn't put your's through never mind mine, although I do know a local guy who uses the jet wash brush on his .. after the local kids have used it to brush the mud off their dirt bikes .. his bodywork is in such a poor state you cringe when you see it ...

No chance. Got stuck in one with my Dad once many many moons ago - sounded like the front wing was being ripped off his Cortina (it was the Seventies! And I wasn't old enough to drive). Took 10 minutes for someone to come round and free us despite much use of the horn. Luckily, it was just the brush banging against a bit of panelling, no real damage Never been through one since.

Can't let this story go untold seeing as it closely relates to car washes...... buckle up peeps.

5 years ago and elderly aunt of mine takes her 'automatic' VW polo to a car wash in South Queensferry. She leans out of the window to insert her token but finds she is parked too far away from the machine. She reaches out a bit further and the car starts to roll gently forward (she'd left it in DRIVE and with her foot now rising off the foot brake the inevitable happens...). She realises what's happening so tries to plant her left foot on the brake... BUT... because she's reached over to the right to feed the machine her foot hits the accelerator. Shooting forward with her right leg still dangling out the car..!!!! Because she's hanging on to the steering wheel she pulls to the right demolishing most of the car wash and losing her right leg from the hip in the process!!!!!

The moral of the story........car washes are slippy foamy things when you try to do a 0-60 followed by an emegency stop!

I know it's a bit of a horror story but she's coping well now and I felt it may raise a few smiles ..... in a funny kind of way!

Would I take my my99 through a car wash??? Don't think so !

A friend of mine took his new Toyota Supra into a car wash. Half way through the cycle he heard a "clunk, clunk, clunk" etc. When he got out at the end of the wash a neat groove across his bonnet and roof had appeared. Apparently, the car before had not taken in their aerial, which had got caught in the rotating brushes of the car wash. It caused about GBP 1,000 of damage. The garage denied all responsibility as there was a sign up warning users that they should be careful etc....I never use car washes!!!!!
