Ian,
If you can afford it get a Valentine 1!
They are $399 (£260) from the States, but they will only ship to a US address! Lucky I have a friend out there!!
I got the consealed display $39 (£26) as well, so the unit although is mounted high on the windscreen, doen't light up at all!
Complete laser and GASTO protection for less that £300!! Much better than the £600 they try to charge here!!
More information about detectors, jammers, GPS units and cameras, avilable on this site:

I have a leaflet with 7 units that were tested
Uniden
Escort Solo
Bel 945
Bel Vector LR
Bel 980 & 990
and Valentine One
Results in short
ONLY the Bel 990 and Valentine Detected all the devices tested (inc. Mini Gatso) and the Bel 990 gave the best warning times (it seems to learn from its experiences!)
The Bel990 is £150-ish cheaper than Valentine

Don't forget that the Bel Euro 550 is the new replacement of the Bel 990 and is still available for 320GBP through the bbs group buy. For info look here,

Ian,
Jackie bought me Snooper a couple Xmas' ago (she didn't know what to buy, only knew I wanted a detector) and i tried it through a few cameras and it didn't read anything - Took it back and exchanged it for a Bel 980 and went through a camera that i'd just been past and it gave me about a 400yd notice that it was on ! i know what i'd buy.
Steve.
