after reading the EVO article a few months back re the cleaning powers of Optimax, I've been using it for the past 1000 miles or so...

Now, I could swear there has been less hesitation/surging but I thought it was just me thinking 'it's more expensive, so it must be making a difference...'

Filled up yesterday on BP 95Ron (no choice - availability) and it's surging like hell! (well, like it always did really, 3000rpm etc?)

Anybody else had this when coming off the wonderstuff and going back to normal unleaded?

Cool

I think you are all being brain washed by each other, I run mine on 98 ron all the time ocasionally put optimax in it which over her is 99+ ron not the crap you lot get, but when I switch to 95 when in the UK there is no difference noticable for at least the first few tanks but then it starts to sound like a VW beatle, I really don't think that you could possibly notice any difference during the 1st tank, get real your cars are modified to accept 95 happily, only the jap cars will be different at first.

I only use Optimax in my MY00, runs better and slightly more MPG. Might revert back to 95 RON if the price goes above 85p/L.

It is actually a known fact that SUL IS better in scoobs than UL.
(this is UK cars BTW )
Firstly you get smoother pickup, your MPG does actually go UP (says me who gets over 340mpg out of a tank on an MY00 PPP'd and d/p'd car )
It also actually works out the same as if your running UL in your car but without the benefits of the smoothness of pickup etc as the price difference compensates for this by giving you extra mileage out of your tank so actually if you run 95 ron fuel your paying the same with less mileage and worse pickup over 97/98 ron fuel which is smoother but more expensive and more MPG.
Swings and roundabouts but id rather have the smoothness than the more frequent visits to the petrol station

Got 280 out of my last tank no problems and that was with a lot of right pedal action. I reckon 350 miles per tank is possible if I drove <70mph all the time

planning to switch back and see if the slight surging stops ASAP - now to burn off 45 litres of fuel...

I like using Optimax cos it cleans well and seems to feel a little better - but I really *hate* all this 'I only use 10,000 ron nitro sphincterine in my car' I mean c'mon, if it really was *that* bad for the Impreza engine, the many thousands of owners/dealers/suppliers would ALL be running/recommending it.

I use 95 and the ocassional tank of Optimax. It makes very little difference to be honest.

I've gone back to normal SUL from Optimax and am not convinced that Optimax is any better, just different.

Thumbs up

Well, I can CERTAINLY tell the difference!! maybe its how you drive/whether you are in tume with your car, but there IS a difference to me!

I drive my car very gentle and often have her in too high a gear and it pinks with NUL - not so with SUL/Optimax, smooth as a babies bottom!!

I have no problems with Optimax but do notice a difference when I change.
