Headlight Protectors
#1
Hello There,
I am planning to get some headlight protectors. How do they work? Do I have to glue them to the headlights or do the just click on. How do you clean them, do you just leave them on or do I have to take them off everytime (could be hard if they are glued!).
Are there different kind of them (carbon look) and where can you buy them (dealer?)
Thanks alot for any reply.
Regards from the very hot Zürich weather!!

Yes you buy them from the dealer and from memory I think they cost £25 to £30. They do two types, the only difference between the two being a carbonfibre effect around the edge (Which I personally didn't like).
They just clip over the headlights and take about 2 seconds to remove.

I'd also suggest you get a set of protectors for the foglights as well, as the foggies cost a bit to replace. Price of foglight covers are about the same as for the headlights, plus they also just clip over the foglights.

Thoroughly recommend them. Had the full set fitted at the 1000 mile service. Promptly cracked the foglight cover the next day! Saved me the cost of a new foglight.
They just clip on & off (although you have to open the bonnet to get the headlight ones off) and I would suggest that you take them off for cleaning once in a while.

Thanks alot for the quick responses (as usual)!!
It looks like I will have a go then!
Hopefully my local dealer has them in stock.
Cheers to all of you, that cannot take some days off (nice weather!).

Other recommendation I had was to switch your headlights on for five minutes before taking them off. The plastic is quite brittle, and it can make the difference between easing them off and snapping the clips.
NB They get dirtier than you think, many times I was cursing my MY98 lights only to find it was half due to guck behind the protectors!

Very true!
Make a point of taking them off and cleaning them separately every time you wash the car.
I didn't do this at first and it made the headlights even worse then standard

They is another way you know.
You could get them armourfended. this is a thickish clear film that will stick to the glass. This has the advantage because they don't get dirt inside like covers do, and don't crack when hit.

I went finally to my local (big) subaru dealer and asked them if they could order these headlight/foglight protectors, but guess what...
..."Headlight protectors??? We never heard about these. Do you mean those strips above the headights which gives them a 'bad' look?? Why do you need them??"
So, this is what you can expect overhere in good ol' Switzerland from a Subaru dealer!!!
I think I should move to the UK only for the car sake!! (or maybe for Michelle as well!!)
I will probably order them from this very website-shop and hope that they will arrive in one piece.
