new f1's ragged in under 100 miles

put a set of the new eagle f1's on 17" speedlines (215x40).
hammered it round stockley park and nsf is now unrecognisable as a tyre.........me thinks they're s h 1 tea. anyone tried them yet and any suggestions for what works well on 17's......after all I can't afford tyres every 300 miles as well as a tank full of optimax!!

I know Stockley Park and have Goodyear F1 tyres, with the correct tyre pressure and geometry they wear very evenly. Very happy with mine as they have done 14k and have about 2-3k left in them. What have you been doing, sliding it round the big roundabout with the bikers?

A while ago, a friend bought 17" F1's for his cossie ( 215/45 ). WHile they did get some abuse, in the form of Donuts, what happened the tyre was ridiculous. The tyres lasted approx 150 miles ( absolute max ) mostly of normal driving on the road, with a few good donuts. Most of the tread actually peeled off the carcass of the tyre, as if it was a remould. I have never seen anything like it, even with remoulds, and for a tyre which claims to be a high performance, id is a joke. I would never use Goodyear F1's and could not possibly reccomend them to anyone after seeing this. I have given plenty of tyres a lot more abuse than the F1's did that night, and they have only worn down a little, or become scuffed. I'd go for Bridgestones or P Zero's. At least they are a quality tyre.
I actually gave a set of Colway remoulds ( 245/45x16 ) a real hammering one night, with major burnouts, and donuts, including 2nd gear. They took it very well, with only expected damage to the tread. Otherwise the tyres were in excellent condition.

stevie that is just about the same as mine.......these ar the new style f1's and while there is an extra ply added for better cornering it appears the tread pattern has drastically changed ( as ive a set of the old to compare) and it would appear that most of the rubber has gone!....like they would be good in a monsoon but in the dry the tread distorts so much it literallr rips it appart on latteral distortion.
I can get a finger inbetween the tread gaps and im sure thats the prob....it has no support unlike the old......well sorry to hear of the late f1's lol but i wont be getting another set. 95% of my driving in a nissan micra is done on the handbrake ( kills the understeer yerknow) and the tyres have done 20k and past its last mot lol (pirelli rubber)

these are the new 17"s........both fr/n/s and rear n/s are mashed, so not all down to camber if i can fathem out how to put a pic on from digi cam i will do.......then y ou will see waht i mean, it not just a few bits of rubber missing.and yes i had 30psi in all 4.(thats 7.5 psi per tyre)........<joke

I'm pretty sure 30psi is way too low for track use!
I run my 215/45ZR17's at 33psi front 31 psi rear for road use and they wear evenly accross the tread.
When I go on track I have them 36 - 38 psi front (hot) and 32 - 34 psi rear (hot) and get very good miles out of them.

I run 225/35/17 F1s on my cossie, and have had them on for about 8000 miles now. That includes 4 full days at Santa Pod, and one absolute full day of abuse round Donno a few weeks back.
Mine have started to wear, but they're not showing too badly, even after the ridiculous pasting (throttled powerslides, big oversteer moments etc etc) I have given them..
There's something not right there mate......

or maybe they just couldn't handle your driving skills!
Possibly wrong pressures, (way) too low will overheat the tyres immensly.
edited to add, you probably went out too hard too fast on new tyres. They need breaking in similar to brakes, by gently getting them to temperature and letting them cool slowly. But really sounds like you just got drift happy.

I've had 15k out of my F1 GS-D2 in 205/50/16.
The front near side is about shot now (too many roundabouts ) but I'm happy with that sort of wear on the Scoob.
