Listers have just recieved a memo from IM/Prodrive that PPP will be released sometime in October the date will be confirmed in the next two weeks.

Well nearly a release date

I was shown the document and seemed real/official enough to me

The same question I asked perhaps IM/Prodrive have notice a little bit of discontent in the ranks

I was given the document to read and they were ringing other STi7 owners with the news so this was not "leak"

In reference to this thread and some comments on other threads about whether the STi actually needs the PPP or not.

It seems this delay might be having a negative effect on potential sales of the PPP. If it had been available a month ago (shortly after having my car) I would have had no hesitation in having it fitted. Now I have had more time to discover what a swift car the STi is as standard I'm beginning to wonder whether to bother!

I was told " Prodrive have at present 20 near complete sets of PPP consisting of Exchange ECU(so no spare), 1 induction component, B/Box, intermediate pipe with Cat and down pipe with sports cat."

I believe this was a "offical" leak trying and stem the flow of discruntled STi7UK owners. As I told this in open conversation and not told in confidence. IMHO

I reckon they have lost at least 20 potential buyers with this cloak and dagger cobblers, you would think it was a national security issue, not a bloody car mod.

60% sure I'm going to cancel mine.
Exchange ECU what a con means you can't keep / sell it when you get rid of the car.
Going for an exhaust I think, cause with all them cats in the PPP you know its not going to be loud enough.
Cheers

Cool

Well said, scoobycar60!!

It's true that the STi performance improves as the miles increase BUT that certainly doesn't help the lack of power at low revs. It's no use having loads of power at 5,500rpm if there's nothing at all at 2,500rpm!!

I've lost count of the number of times I've been caught out by this car - either slow getaways at traffic lights where it just bogs down (unless you want to fry the clutch) or travelling at about 65-70mph in 6th and needing a bit of sudden go and finding there isn't any without changing down!! Yes, I know I should plan ahead etc etc but my MY98 had plenty of urge for most of the time. I thought this is exactly the sort of situation where variable valve timing would come to the rescue, but does it?

The fact is that when you're really going for it, the car is very quick but for the other 75% of the time, it's just a difficult car to make smooth progress in. I too have driven an Audi TT225 - and that comes on full boost very quickly and without any of the hesitation and hiccups of the STi engine (sounds terrible though!!).

Roll on the PPP!!!

Given all the delays I for one will be thinking long and hard before putting it on the car. I might go down the ECUTEK with decat exhaust route and get my own more accurate map.
Obviously there is a warranty risk but looking closly at the graphs with no numbers the power seems to tail off rapidly.

Just a question: if a car has a 6 speed box to best exploit the engine, isn't that sort of implying that you need to change gear to get the best of it?

Chiark,
Agreed with 6 speed if you keep using the gears you'll not drop below 4Krpm
Also the Engine is by design A reving engine and not Torquey would do very nicely with a 2.2/2.5 stroke kit IMHO.

I have nearly been side swiped by steam roller as struggling to turn right out of a junction : LOL

Just to add my two penneth worth, I have had a Cat back centre pipes mated to a Groupn backbox from TSL and I have to say that the turbo definitely feels a bit more urgent from 3k up. I'm not saying there is huge BHP/Torque gains to be had from it, but I'm definitely NOT getting caught out on the lights. I have to say I am in agreement on one very important thing, the engine and car Just Gets Better and Better with more miles.
Have you seen the graph on Subaru UK. It only looks like 400Nm up 57 on standard, and about 1000rpm earlier. BHP looks like being more sustained and running up to 300, but is it my eyes or does the standard run around 280BHP on that graph? Oh well here's to seeing it soon!

By the way I was feed this info and don't blame me if it goes pear shape LOL

and for my 4 Penny's worth I reckon the kit was going to come with 2 Sports Cats due to Emmissions/Boost spike but the delays are due to trying to only have 1 in downpipe IMHO

I wonder if this is anything to do with the promotion of the PPP version as an option at the motor show in October..... or so the rumours go,... I do hope this is not just another marketing ploy.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention T5NYW. I would have preferred an official statement from Subaru which IMHO would be the correct way of approaching the matter, if now it seems Dealers are willing to openly discuss the subject with owners.

Any further delays and disappointments will not go down well.....!

Cynical mode on.
I hope they do release it in reasonable quantities for existing owners (not like the MY01 UK300 only fiasco last time) and there are no surprises or problems over availability when the excitement of the motor show fades.

Despite what many are saying here I for one still think the STi7 needs the PPP if only to spool the turbo up quicker (full boost before 4000 rpm!), if the PPP does this and gives a useful torque boost then I will still want one as opposed to after market solutions as I would prefer to keep my warranty intact.

Anyone here tried an Audi TT ,whatever you say about the thing it is on full boost at 2000 rpm for goodness sake! makes you wonder....

I'm not going to join the PPP debate but you do all sound like a bunch of moaning old grannies!

Three things to point out about the lack of boost below 4k PRM.

1) You can drive around it by selecting a lower gear.
2) The engine gets better the more miles you've done.
3) A replacement backbox makes a big improvement, the OEM item is VERY restrictive.

It will be ready when it's ready, so chill out!

Regards, Mark
