Watched some track time at donington yesterday....

Saw a new WRX get beat on track by a Mondeo ST220....

Very impressed by how much the mondeo pulled past the wrx down the straight at donington.....

And you lot slag FORD off all day......

Modified?? I could keep up with these in a straight line in the VTS so I suspect it would have to be to pass a wrx in the striaghts?!

He said ST220, not ST24 or ST200, they have only just been released.

I dotn think many fleet reps get their hands on an ST220 its normally a 1.8LX or diesel. Its all about badge at fleet/rep mental level and you can get a base model BMW for the price of an ST220 .

My dad has a Mondy Ghia X 2.5 V6 (170bhp ST24 engine) and I must admit its a lovely drive and eats miles does nearly 40mpg on a run as well. Best bit it was a great price second hand and has ALL the toys, he is still finding buttons and has 250 page user guide LOL. I would have one as a runabout if I could afford to insure one as well as he scoob.

Cheers

Chris

Clarkson had a Mondeo V6 and said that it was almost as fast point to point as his 355 !

And you lot slag FORD off all day......
Is that the same "you lot" that wouldn't know that an ST220, whilst still a quick car, is over a second slower 0-60, and 2 seconds slower 0-100 than even a humble WRX?

Maybe the scoob driver couldn't drive, or just couldn't be arsed?

Or is it just that this is hoping to stir people up?

Cheers,

Deano

Edited cos I can't type....

Beemer deano - not a wind up.....

Sounded flat out to me....but yer can't help but defend it....

How can a car with more wheels to turn be faster BTW ??

220bhp rs turbo will do a 220bhp scoob in straight line.....

The radical was pretty poor also, yet another scoobynet member said "he wasn't trying"

Same response - I was there were you

AND YER CAN'T COMPARE A 911 TO A MONDEO..... SO

I'm not arguing with whether you saw it, I'm debating whether this sort of crap is really worth posting about....... again......

How can a car with more wheels to turn be faster BTW ??
Maybe it's heavier? Maybe it's got different gearing? I'm sure you can think of loads more.

Both manufacturers figures show the WRX to be a faster car - backed by countless tests. Given that, all we can argue about is was the modeo driver a better driver, was he less bothered about ******** his car, did he have mods..... etc etc etc so what's the point?

Unless the point is yet another Ford vs Subaru vs BMW vs *insert latest fanboy marque here* flaming match? In which case, I'm not interested in getting into it oops

Deano

Also worth mentioning the st220 has no turbo lag, pretty fat torque curve, and no 4wd losses.

ALSO worth mentioning is the WRX comes with crap RE11 tyres or whatever, whereas the ST220 comes with Continental Sport Contacts, the very same tyre that EVO magasine said had the highest levels of out and out dry grip. And 5mph more out of a corner is 5mph more all down the straight.

Lowered suspension, 18" alloys, big brakes. The ST220 is pretty well sorted I think.

was at Toyota track day and standards of driving were poles apart
i had a go in the celica and thought i was the bee knees canning it and over taking other drivers easily .

then the instructor took me for a spin and made it look like i was driving backwards.

so how the **** can you judge who was pushing what and who had the ability standing watching ????

Th scooby would undoubtedly be quicker off the mark than the st220 but when rolling it would be pretty even I would have thought. The new scoobies are not exactly rapid out of the box
