Agree with above. Obviously buy as late a MY99 or MY00 car as possible so you are left with the 3 year warranty.

Most UK cars are pretty well looked after by owners so I wouldnt be that wary of private sale. But make sure you dont get caught out with an invalid warranty.

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a second had turbo in the near future and I'm after some advice.

I've see the sort of car I'd like - 1999 UK turbo, dark Mica blue, silver alloys, fogs, fsh, 21k miles advertised privately for £14500 but I'm wary of the pitfalls of buying privately. I guess there is better value for money in the private ads but I was looking to buy from a dealer in order to get some sort of warranty.

Am I being overly cautious or is my best bet with a dealer ?

Thanks in advance

Cool

Provided there are no warranty affecting mods on the car and it is a UK sourced car, you will get the remainder of the three year warranty anyway, whether you buy from a garage or privately.

Thumbs up

But some dealers can offer good value.

My motor is a 2000 model same spec with air-con. was only 9 months old (7k miles) when I got it and I paid £16500. I was happy to do this having dealer back up and they were not your typical forcefull selling.

eg from the same dealer (and i am sure they would move on the price)

1999,37,000, TREG £15,495
4 DOOR FINISHED IN SILVER SPORTS SEATS, SPORTS SUSPENSION, 17" ALLOY WHEELS, 6 DISC CD PLAYER

There are always turbo's coming up for sale in the *privates* section. I would imagine that if they are selling them on the bbs they are bound to be good ones that have been looked after and you can always slate them and give the seller a bad name if you get a bad one and a git of a previuos owner.

Was in the same position until 2 wks ago. Bought a UK standard 1999 T plate, 29k miles (dealer did 30k service) and extended the warranty (a further 12months after the cars man warranty finishes (ends when the car is 4 yrs old). All for 14.5k.

Being my first high performance 'desirable' car I wanted the re-assurance of being able to take the car back to the dealer with any problems (so far none!) Oh yeah - they cleaned it before I got it as well !!

If buying privately is concerning you what price do you put on worrying ? For me (and it is a personal thing remember ) I would rather pay a bit more cash and worry less.
