Owning a Subaru Impreza, even a lowly 1.6gl isnt cheap
they have 2 services per year, one being around 100 quid the other can be up to 500 quid.
Insurance is a killer too as subaru's are a thief's target, and they take some getting use to driving too.
At 18 you wouldnt get insured on the turbo, the sport would be more likely a model for you but your looking at over 1k per year on that, possably more as young drivers with NCB are more likely to have accidents
I would suggest that you start with a car that wont cripple you with servicing costs (and no i wouldnt service this car myself before you think about it, you would just loose all its value as this type of car without Full service history wont be touched) and im not joking when i say something like a fiesta or punto, you may find that these cars will cost you 8-900 quid to insure TPF&T but wont rob you in the fuel and roadtax departments saving you a few thousand pounds per year over the Subaru.

I hada 1.3 Fiesta from 17 to 19 to get a couple of years NCB, then I bought an Impreza Sport (Insurance £1500) which I replaced last month with my dream, a Turbo. Insurance with 4 years NCB is about the same as I was paying on my sport.
The sport is a great car, and it certainly makes driving the Turbo a lot easier cos you're used to the chassis and so on, rather than diving straight in with a Turbo.
A 2 year old 2000 Sport would be about £9k from a dealer. check www.subaru.co.uk for your local dealer and also check their online approved listings. I've just bought what you want from them and it's AWESOME

If you want one bad enough you will save the money. Awesome feeling when you pick up your first car, mine was a total shed but any wheels atthat age was cool .
I use to spend hours looking through autotraders, local papers, car mags etc looking at prices and specs an ddoign the sums .
You will get there one day and it gets easier as you get older as people want to lend you more money . I promised myself I would have a Ferrari by the time I was 30. Sadly didnt make it but maybe by the time I am 40 or 33 . I still have the same insurance bill of a 355 though , well only 200 quid more than the RA.
Good Luck,
ChrisP

I passed my test at 17 but wasn't untill I was 26 that I got my first WRX....fantastic then you want more and more!!
Trouble is when you really want the fast car i.e 17 ,18 you can't afford it or the insurance
If you can then good luck to you but I think if I had my impreza at 18 it would have been very dangerous without much experience.

At 16 I wanted a V8 Rover 3500s(manual gearbox). I wanted one so bad. At 19 I got one and it was the second best car I have ever had.
At 29 I wanted a Subrau Impreza turbo. At 32 I got one and it is the best car I have ever had.
Go for it if you want one that bad you'll get one no matter what. Good luck
