Shock horror - Car mag Oct - Focus RS thrashes WRX
#1
#2
I've just had my monthly RSOC Club magazine through - it tests the
Focus RS against the WRX.
Verdict was, don't bother with the RS, because in our opinions the WRX is the best car in the real world.
Who said RS lot were biased eh?
FYI they also brough along various flavours of Cossie - an Escort (big turbo) and 2wd Sapphire - surprisingly both these cars were "left for dead" by the 2 newcomers.
Edited for spellink

Ford had modded the car.
It was done on a hot day.
They blind folded the driver of the Subaru!

possibly, but I had to have about 4 goes at posting, first it spat it back when I missed a / on a tag, but deleted all the message. Then I got bitten by flood control?????? and lost it AGAIN.
thankfully there's going to be some new features I hear, to prevent tag mistakes and reduce server load....

I dunno Dave.
You spend months shedding your muppet image, tying to become the font of knowledge in all things PPP and then you go and ruin it all in one post

In "Top Gear" this month, Jezzer prefers the WRX to RS Focus on road-handling grounds, rather than track-handling. Nothing to choose in a straight line allegedly. As you know Clarkson is never wrong.

From the tests I have read the reported problem with the focus are that on the road its nervous and tramlines all over the place which means it takes a very confident driver to pedal it quickly.
This has been mentioned in all tests so far even those that rated the car. Has anyone on this BBS driven one to verify?

Cheers,
Ray

· Duratec RS 2.0-litre engine, advanced turbo-charging system with 65 per cent more power than standard 2.0-litre
· Quaife torque-biasing differential for optimal front-wheel-drive tractability
· RS performance: 0-60 mph in 6.4 seconds, 0-100 mph in 15.5 seconds, 100-0mph in just 4.1 seconds, top speed of 144 mph
· Aggressive style inspired by the Focus WRC, including chassis layout and competition-themed interior
· Shared suppliers, including Sparco, Garrett Technologies, O.Z. Racing, Brembo, Sachs Racing and AP Racing
· Production limited to 30 units per day in Ford's Saarlouis Plant, Germany, with volume production starting mid-September 2002
.. so it's not as quick as an out-of-the-box WRX.

MJW,
Maybe not to 60, but it is to the ton.
Anyway that's not the point - I'd never trash the clutch to get these sort of times.
It's a fast car. Period.
I don't really want one though. I've has a Focus. I know it's illogocal. Maybe if I drove one I'd change my mind.
Seems Ford spent a long time on the development, wonder if they got the reliability sorted, 'cos they hadn't with my Focus. Even managed to fit a Mondeo engine
