Hi
On the way home from work a Sunny GTI-R come up behind me.Eventually a bit of clear road and I had a go with it.First gear was level, second gear I pulled around 3 car lengths on him, could not go any faster as too much traffic.Looked pretty quick. My car is a P1 with de-cat scorpion centre and prodrive back box, also forge dump valve V.T.A.Any body else raced one?

As a Ex-Nissan owner you will find most sporty Nissan`s provide a suprise or two to the un educated. Beware Sunny GTI-Rs are rarly standard and as previously mentioned are easly modded and could give any scoob a run for it`s money. I would even go as far to say that they are just as much fun and VFM as the scooby. They also have a similar following.
You try and outrun a Primera GT in a scoob. It will be with you well over the 130 mark and more. They also handle like a thorough bred. Nissan`s have a lot more turbo experience than Subaru, they have been doing it for years to most of the models they make.
Be very cautious of them there Nissan dudes they can bite you know.

its true, 228+bhp and are easily modded... small cars but rapid!
Nissan Pulsar GTi-R is the one to look out for... its M5 fast, like 5.1secs = 0-60, and thats fast when it comes to being quick off the mark, and thats what you need on the roads.
but most people just modify their Pulsar GTi and change the badges, but they are only capable of doing 0-60 in 7.9secs.
for the price you cant complain, i mean from as little as £4000 to £7000 u get a well modded one.
have considered in the past but i'll give it a miss, just something about it that doesnt appeal to me (probs cause my mates already got one)

Must add that Gtir's are feckin tough as well, my best mate lost traction in his, hit a kerb straight on and bounced through a wall, the front needed very little straightening and is fully repaired.
The guy who finally repaired it didnt want to take the job on at first as he said that they were known for being very strong.
I will never look at the CO OP in hoddesdon the same again..
If i had somewhere to upload to i have got an excellent video of me drag racing against him at n.weald on sunday...

I had a bit of a tickle with one at "an unknown location within the UK" a while back in the 3-door. I've got 260bhp and he still left me standing, so I took it out on a poor unsuspecting RSturbo with delusions of grandur
Still V V rapid for what they are.

Hello,
As a GTIR owner (290bhp, yum yum) I just want to say that I am encouraged by your non negative comments chaps/chappeses. All to often people slag the R of for its looks (ugly, yes) handling, speed etc.
I like Scoobys, and if I had an extra 3k I would have bought a good one. The R is at least 8 years old now (94 was the last one) and most machinery we go up against is a lot younger, like most scoobys. Mine is a 92 and has a rebuilt engine etc, so it has a smooth delivery and I love driving it.
Ideally I would like a scooby, WRX, P1, hmmm. But my budget only stretched to the R, or for a grand or so more I could have bought a M reg scooby? Maybe, but my R is the only one in my town, and to me that is priceless.
Keep up the racing of the R's and scoobys, as far as I am concerned if the R is mentioned in the same breath as a Scooby then I am a happy man.

wrxmark, I agree that the Primera GT is a great handling car, a mate had one as Co. car, but there is NO way it will keep up with a scoob. It is a fast and fun (normally aspirated) 2 litre car.
I had a Rover 220 GSi at the time and there was very little in it, 0 - 60 in around 8 secs although the gearing on the GT was sooooooo long. Around a particularly fast bend near southampton the GT was more composed than the Rover, but I recently visited the road in my Scoob and it went faster than both.
I imagine that they are quite good down the motorway but for me as soon as the needle hits 3 figures I have claimed defeat / victory

GTiR's are class little cars, very quick! The garage that looks after my car (GDA Sports Cars) specialises in GTiR's and I must say I do drool whenenver i'm over there. If I'd know how good they were, and did not need the wagon, I would have got one.

Having previously owned a GTiR, I can report the following -
The GTiR is one of the best value for money 4wd cars on the market.
The Imports have marginally more bhp that the UK Spec, and produce 220bhp at .6 bar. 1 bar will produce 280bhp, and it goes up from there.
The engines will need internal upgrades to run more than 1 bar, but the engines with forged pistons and metal head gasket are pretty strong.
The main weakness is the gearbox. I broke 3 of mine, mainly drag racing, but had my GTiR tuned to over 400bhp, and ran a 11.7 second quarter mile at 124mph.

Used to own a rare R plate Gti-r, Had plenty of goodies fitted & absolutely flew, Much quicker of the line than my scoob, Had to get rid for 4 doors. Don't miss it (much).

I think there must have been an office party the night before mine was registered & everybodys eyes were still looking like roadmaps. Doesn't look a miss on it though.
