There is a national speed limit in force throughout the UK road network. If you exceed this, or the posted limits which are lower, and are caught, you may be subject to a fine, points or even a ban. This is something to watch for.

Dave,
It can get really busy between 4pm and 6pm on the M25 between the A3 and M4 turnoffs. A good trick is to come off the M25 at the M3 and head in the direction of Southhampton. Then come off the M3 at the Bracknell turnoff (1st exit you come to I think)and head across and pick up the M4 just before Reading, thus missing out the major league queues on the M25 to get onto the M4. With the good weather this weekend they are predicting a lot of holidaymakers on the roads heading for the airports.
I use this cut through every time we head over to Bath to visit family.

Not found it to be too bad of late, for the past month I haven't seen a single police car on between J16&18 that wasn't attending an accident. But before then it was a nightmare. Maybe I just getting into a false sense of security, I'll probably get banned tonight!
I would say that it depends what time you travel, because between 3 and 7pm it is often hard to drive illegally on a friday on the M4.
