YOUR NEW CAR COULD HAVE BEEN STOLEN
#1
There seems to be a panic on concerning used cars brought here from Japan.
THIS ALSO APPLIES TO NEW CARS.
I jest not. All new cars from Japan registered as personal imports are now checked by local VRO's with Interpol before registration. It usually takes 24-48 hours. This rule has been in force for several months. It applies to all cars, including those bought from approved European dealers.
Apparently this is because new cars have been stolen in Japan and shipped to European destinations to be sold as new for the UK market.
This may be good news for recent buyers, but what does it suggest for those, like me, who imported a new car directly from Japan a year or two ago?

I think if you bought the car from a subaru dealer in japan you should be ok, or direct from the factory, now if its from another non reputable source then you should be worried but i think most of the cars that are stolen are of older origin rather than newer.
