Jap import emmisions pre 1995 - WHAT'S THE TRUTH?
#1
Getting conflicting stories about what levels a pre 95 import should be tested at. Some say it's the same as uk versions, some say they are all tested as pre cat models and some say only 95 models onwards have to pass while 93/94 models are checked at older levels. Does anyone ACTUALLY know the truth? Even my local mot stations can't seem to come up with the same answer. I wanted to de-cat mine but don't want the hassle/legalities of mot/roadside emissions tests.

Just had my STI 3 Pass the MOT with full de-cat.
Tell the MOT station it is an Import & When they ask the model say it is a Subaru WRX STI, "DONT" Mention Impreza. They will not have a listing for it on their machine & therefore have to test it as a non cat car. If you chose a friendly MOT station this should be OK.
As for the actual legalities & roadside tests I dont know the answer but how likely is a roadside test

Some imports have a V5 which states "RIGID TWO AXLE VEHICLE" as the car type - if they do then theoretically there is no emissions test - irrespective of age - however some stations get confused.
