Front Mounted Intercoolers/Apexi Computers??
#1
I have a question for all you mechanic wannabes!!
I've got a series Mcrea .. English, with HKS Induction Kit and Full 3.5" Exhaust System (Magnex).
If I were to purchase A front mounted Intercooler and a set of Apexi Computers (both air and Fuel ones)???
Would my car be over 300bhp??? If it were what would the Turbo be safe pushing out, and would the gearbox take it, I would need to upgrade the Clutch I reckon???
What sort of power should i expect? Its either this or sell the scoob and buy a house??
Pete

I've got a UK94 with a regular top mount intercooler, however I do run the APEXI fuel controller and boost controller.
I run 1.3bar in the high boost setting, and it really does feel quick. Also running a Mongoose SS (decat) exhaust with a PiperX cone filter.
No idea about the power output but it does feel much quicker than it used to.
Weighing up moving to a FMIC.... don't know whether I should or not.
Cheers,
Mark

Sorry Im confused now??
Do you mean he got an extra 18bhp after fitting the FMIC.
Or
Do you mean he got the turbo upto 18psi when he fitted the FMIC, because it cools it and the turbo boost was able to be turned up??

Sell the Mcrae and get an STI
To get 300bhp, you are going to have to rev high, or change the turbo for a unit that can flow more air at high revs, then the fuel/air computers can do their stuff, but then ignition timing should also be changed, to take full advantage of a more dense air charge and greater fuel(unless your UK injectors are maxing-out on duty cycle already)
Some very knowledgable people will tell you 300bhp isn't possible without upgrading the fuel injectors first antway.
A fully mappable ECU would be more use in this situation.
Also, don't forget, the official Prodrive upgrade quotes 240bhp for this MY. It's the Torque which will make a difference on the road.
Bhp figures are only really useful in M** P**** magazine
Phil.

I am trying my best to confuse you aren't I?
If you read the link above Stef says that he got 260bhp & 260lb/ft with 182bhp at the wheels with FMIC, Prodrive Performance Pack, full exhaust and induction kit.
With all the above fitted the addition of the FMIC gave a 18bhp increase at the wheels.
Hope that makes sense.

Peter,
I had the APEXI stuff fitted by DP Motorsport in Warrington. Can't remember how much I paid for both units including fitting, but they weren't cheap. Something like £800 for the units themselves plus setting up.
I can't get as much power as I'd have liked out of mine as anything over 1.3bar it detonates, and suffers from overly hot intake temps as the intercooler can't cope.
In an ideal world I'd have the front mounted intercooler + the APEXI stuff to get more power....or simple start with an STI
