Importing. Which immobilser and where?
#5
Question for the other importing from Belgium types out there.
Insurance requires a cat1 immobiliser to be fitted as on the UK cars.
So which immobiliser is this and where should I get it fitted?
Or should I get a different kind?

CAT 1 just specifies the specification of the alarm, ie it has to pass certain tests to reach a security level of CAT1 most people use Clifford, but stick to a known name and you should be OK ! as with most things it depends on the fitter as the alarms are all manufactured to reach CAT1

Cat 1 refers to Thacham Category 1 rating - which is for combined alarm/immobilisers.
Cat 2 is pure immobiliser...
I'd recommend the Clifford Concept 600 alarm/immobiliser as it has just too many unique features (anti-hijack plus wireless immobilisation are the highlights) not to. Brilliant piece of kit that gives me peace of mind.
More important than the actual unit is the quality of fitting. Use someone who knows the Impreza and has experience of working with them. Always go on recommendations, as there's some complete cowboys out there!
I (and quite a few of the ImportingImprezas list) used Max at Maximum Impact in Leeds (tel 0113 244 1448). He fits clifford stuff brilliantly. (No connection, etc). Give him a bell and he'll happily talk you through what would be best for you.

I got the Sigma M30 fitted. Price was £300ish as far as I remember. Used a national company called Falcon Security who sub-contracted to a guy that came up from Heathrow to the house. He did a top class job and knew his Scooby's too.
You may want to get a VSIB certified fitter (an industry standard, =vehichle security installation board or something like that) for extra peace of mind and some insurers ask to see the certificate as well as the one that says the alarm is Cat. 1 rated.
I think I may have a magazine that reviews and rates some of the more popular alarms - I'll see if I can find it

Good point about VSIB: if you want your insurance company to recognise the alarm has been fitted to approved standards, you will need to have it installed by a VSIB accredited installer.

I used a WVS in Baldock for my Sigma 30. (01462 893198) Good job done but ultrasonics are way too sensitive and go off all the time drives me potty
Re-programming to reduce sensitivity is a 5 min job with the right equipment. However I've moved to Swindon area and it appears no-one around here fits them. I've got to go to sailsbury or Bristol to sort. Wish I'd got a Clifford now, they seem to have dealers all over the place.
Ho Hum. Any-one know a Sigma dealer in Wiltshire that can assist?
