Brought a Subaru impreza turbo like all of you on here nearly 2 years ago a my98 (S)for just over £13k with 31000 miles on the clock. A1 car.
Now I've been through hell and back trying to sell the thing. Its taken 4 weeks and it only ended up getting £8500. Dealerships didn't want to buy it, and the trade in was price being offered was taking the p..s. for such a car. The milege had reached 53k but it had fssh and was still in ex cond.
Even when people from garages viewed the car they commented on it's good condition.
The main reasons for not buying were due to to much stock at present, wrong time of the year and the fact that the prices in Glasses & Parkers are all over the place.
One dealer offered £7600 which I politly told him to place that up his ****.
I just do not understand how a car such as this can now be worth so little.

Have or are any you experiencing the same difficulties????????

Just take a look at Autotrader, the market is flooded with scoobies so buyers can be choosy. Add to this the influx of grey/UK spec imports and the prices will continue to drop.

In my experience Subaru garages rip you off blind when you try and sell it back to them.

The answer is very simple I'm afraid and its something that people on here are for ever complaining about. Running Costs........

It may look and sound cheap to have a 140mph 4wd ripsnorter for only £8,500, hell you can't even buy a well specced Fiesta for that now. But here is the bitter pill, Fiesta's don't do 20mpg, they don't have £500 service bills, they don't run on £150 a pop tyres that get replaced after 10,000 miles, and they don't cost four figures to insure.

You may pay considerably less to buy a used impreza now, but the running costs are still exactly the same if not higher than when new, think replacement clutches and most people will shudder. Its same for a Ferrari, you might be able to buy them for £20,000 but they still need big money to be paid out in servicing to keep them going.

People with £8,500 to spend on a car will probably not have enough money to pay the running costs, hence the cars sit there and wait for someone who can.

I agree with that but it still bugs me. Maybe part of this is just due to the fact that for the mean time whilst buying a bigger house I can't justify the running costs. But still in 12 months time I'm sure there will be another scooby on the drive as I don't regret spending anything on that car it was worth every penny..

Sorry to make it sound so harsh, but its something that won't change. Nice thing is in 12 months time you're going to come back to an Impreza with your eyes wide open and can get some payback and buy your next car much cheaper.......

why would a garage even contemplate giving you top dollar for you car, by the time they have cleaned it, serviced it, advertised it they're left with an overpriced car which they can't sell! Add that to the fact you're not buying a car off them.... you might aswell just go in and ask them to give you a lump of cash!

I don't mean this to be a dig at you or anyone in particular, I'm just fed up with seeing this sort of thing, I've seen it from within the trade for the last 9 years

just to put the record straight this 90% of the quotes were as a part ex against another car. I agree that Subaru dealerships were slightly different and don't have a problem with that but garages such as peugeot were taking the p......

Only because they were probably getting it underwritten by the same Subaru dealers because it's not their stock profile

Not an ideal situation, I have to agree.
A scoob and the likes are only attractive to a minority, and unfortunately most people are more interested in mpg, how many screaming children they can fit in the back etc etc


One thing I might stress for anyone contemplating buying a Scoob is colour.
I have a Sonic Blue MY00 and it's rare as f*ck, since it only came on import. Some are prepared to pay a premium for a desirable colour or spec.

You'll prolly find dealerships won't buy "other" cars, mainly because they'll struggle to sell it, ie, a Peugeot garage wouldn't be top of your list if you were looking at scoobs. They're even less likely to buy a specialist car such as a scoob.

Really, to get the best price you need to sell privately, it may take longer but that's where the money is.

Count yourself lucky, I'm trying to sell a Lexus I bought for £22,500 30 months ago and the best offer I've had on it is £10,500. Gutted.
