Just driven a 93MY WRX last night.

Had a performance exhaust, dump valve, suspension alterations and induction kit

When i topped the gears, it seemed to stop the power and then in a sense, start to gurgle and sound like it was about to cut out. This would be before i changed gear, and also some of the reason why i changed.

Whats up with it?

What revs were you doing in each gear when it happened?

No, rev limiters will (or should!) only cut in at the red line, so anywhere between 6500 and 8250 depending on engine spec (can't recall where the 93 WRX redline is but I'd guess between 6500 and 7500). If the one you tried is cutting out at between 4000 and 5000, it suggests something else - maybe fuel starvation? Try it again if you can and note what revs you're doing when it happens. If it was just a test drive, maybe better to leave it and look for another - there are some good ones around
