Which Scooby/EVO ???
I'm Looking to replace my current car ('95 celica GT4) with one of the following:
RB5, STI 5, STI 5 Type R or Mitsibishi EVO 5 bearing in mind that I will also be modifying one of the above, which would be the better buy?

The only way to decide is to drive them all. If you've seen other threads here, you'll have read that it's a very personal thing which tends to split opinion. At the end of the day, we are talking about degrees of brilliance.
DazW,
Well all I can say is that I had a new EVO 6 for 5 months and didn't like it from day 2 onwards. (day 1 = fazed by the 'new toy').
To summarise why I didn't like it:
1. Sounds like a nissan micra
2. With a mongoose system - sounds like a max'ed Nova.
3. Rides like it doesn't have springs.
4. Drinks petrol like it's going out of fashion (under any driving style - avg. 17mpg).
5. You sit so high up ON the seat you can look down on Range Rovers.
6. It just doesn't feel like a 'special' car.
Now, on the other hand, a STi 5, Type R, V-Ltd Coupe - that has SOME character...
1. The boxer sound (mongoose system).
2. The speed (effortless).
3. THE torque (the difference is significant at motorway speeds).
And I used to say Scoobys were common-as-muck before I had one!
(They ARE common for very good reasons.)
And also, it seems that 8/10 EVO 6 owners change their cars after they've tried one...
Rich.

The EVO5 engine has a tendency to go pop when chipped. According to a friend in Japan, the EVO6s' ECU is more tamper-proof but it depends on how much you want to spend on car and tuning. Power Engineering have a Phase 1 converison for STi4 Imprezas but nothing yet for the STi5 (a newer engine).
Try them all, including and especially a UK spec model. Everybody seems to think that they are the poor relation. UK spec is not as powerful but Subaru dont make a bad turbocharged impreza or any impreza come to that. Its still a very capable car and shouldnt be discounted.
You mentioned the RB5 in the list which is a standard UK model when you take off all the fancy badges. (probably just upset 444 owners
). If you want respect and status from your peers then it has to be a 22B, you will never be on your own at a track day or meet
.

Unfortunately my funds can't quite stretch to a 22B, plus the roads around here aren't that smooth!
But if someone could make steel copies of the 22B's Aluminium wings......then I would seriously think about those as a mod!!!

Go to a dealer that has both an evo and various scoobies, try them.... and then buy the Impreza
If you can get an STi, all the better. Honestly, you will end up looking forward to EVERY drive, taking the long route home and looking longingly at it as you close the garage door. Come on guys, am I right or am I right
Stupot (massivly bias)

Go with the Scooby. More scope for modification than the Evo, and there seems to be far more knowledge in the UK on Scooby modification than with the Evos. Also you get a far better bulletin board for the Scoobies!
