Hi, I'm new to this board, just trying to figure it out.
Last month I became the proud owner of a Jap import 1993 WRX. Still limited at the moment, but goes to Scoobysport on the 24th to sort that out!
I'm assuming it will be quite a bit faster afterwards right? as it seems to be limited by the boost, and if u hit a certain level it cuts the power for a second.
The other thing I'm confused about is that I've read that Jap WRX's should be 280bhp as standard, but some of them on that dynomite scoobies part are not reaching that!

Get your car undersealed, use only SUL preferably with an octane booster and as for other questions, we have a technical section for them

Is yours an STI? - technically the 1993/1994 models had around 240bhp standard.

Super Unleaded - Yes or get a remap on the ecu.. or normal unleaded + octane booster

Limited - I thought they were just speed limited to about 112mph so power will not be changed?

Early jap cars were 240ps (ie 92-94) the wagons stayed that way till 97 where as the wrx saloons from 95-96 got 260ps (all figures are ps so -3 to get rough bhp on 100 ron fuel).
the 280ps (276BHP) cars are 97-00.
As said, dont forget to run your car on super unleaded/optimax only and octane booster helps too
(you should be able to source some from Pete at Scoobysport )

Its a WRX according to the sticker!
The log book don't even say its an Impreza, just a 2 axle rigid body it says!

Its definately limited to 112mph, cos I've hit it. But under harsh acceleration it can cut the power momentarily, when the boost gets to 1 bar say. Its as if it won't let it get past that pressure. What kind of boost shoul dI be runnin as standard anyway?

Cool

1 bar sounds fine for a standard WRX! That is what mine was boosting peak.

That will have the TD05 turbo as standard and I think the boost is about 0.8bar.. I suspect it is detting on the fuel/or hitting the boost cut.. although I could be wrong.. Pete should sort things..

It is unlikely to find a WRX coming in from Japan that has not already has speed demon fingers layed on it.. so chances of it being a standard WRX are slim... they like there mods..

Okay I stand corrected then..

I assumed it would be the same as the UK car and about 0.75 to 0.8bar..

Sorry

oh its not standard
its got a few jap toys
Greddy turbo timer
Full HKS exhaust (pathetically loud) Not Superdrager, some other weirdo one with 5" bucket at the back. Best one I've ever seen!
Dump valve, Apexi induction kit
RIGID boost and oil temp gauges.
some weirdo side skirts I'm sure no one has ever seen?!
Unfortunately, I have to put up with the worst wheels subaru have ever made, but they suit the car cos they are grey, car is silver.
I need to lower it though.

possibly, I'll talk to scoobysport when I'm there
I'm sure they'll make it pathetically fast for me!
theres no way its as fast as it should be at the moment though.
it feels real quick at low revs, but it seems to die out at the higher revs, especially in third and forth. efinately something to do with a rev or boost limit
